The Seagull's Cry
Rose Marie Streeter
Waves move in to lap my feet
'n kiss away the pain
yet silent tears surrender
ballet down my chin
Seagull's gather overhead
cry and mourn your death
wind chants a ghoulish lullaby
'n steals away my breath
Gone are dreams 'n promises
now washed out with the tide
drowning in the seaweed
just trying to survive
Floating top the water
red clusters of a rose
tossed with love, remem'brance
childhood days of old
Reaching for tomorrow
yet stuck in yesterday
trying to cope, find answers
to get me through today
Although the sun is warming
lips quiver with a chill
a loneliness enwraps me
with sadness standing still
Seashells 'n sand-dollars
play catch us if you can
while foam and tiny bubbles
waltz along the sand
A gentle calm embraces
'n wraps around my soul
mem'ries of a past tense
skip along the shore
The scent of you still lingers
plays tag with tropic breeze
'tho washed away are footprints
your whisper carries me
Again the waves roll softly
tears blend with salty mist
seagull's hush in silence
cheek felt your tender kiss
