The Red Envelope
Rose Marie Streeter
Right there among'st my statements
electric, gas and phone
a greeting in red envelope
sender was unknown
There wasn't any address
the card was left unsigned
wondering who had sent it
boggled...
up my mind
Sweet words that danced before me
all thoughts ran astray
the day was meant for...
lovers
'n special friendships..
made
Imagined chocolate candy
'n kissing 'neath the moon
soft whispers of a lover
making my heart...
swoon
The feeling was so awesome
smiles balleted 'round the room
again and again,
I read it...
savoured every word
It read,
Can't always promise sunshine
or rainbows after rain
but one thing I will promise
I'll always be your friend
When'er you're down 'n lonesome
I'll lend my listening ear
laugh with you 'n cry with you
your friendship very dear
Hugs 'n
smiles I'm sending
laughter, for your soul
my promise is to love you
as each new day unfolds
Happy Valentine's Day
I loved the verse
but...
it was an unsigned
Valentine's Card
after all
Then like a brick it hit...me
as memory...recalled
Oh No!!!!
Suddenly I realized
hung my head...
in shame
perhaps a senior moment
is where I'll place...
the blame
That special little greeting
recipient...
never got
with daily hustle, bustle
to mail...
I plum forgot
So now I sit here crying
looking for my mind
hate those senior moments
they beat me...
every time
Within a hurried moment
ten thousand things to do
out the door...
forgetting...
the card...I meant...
for...you
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!
