They Lifted Me Up

They Lifted me up when I was too tired

to go yet another mile;

They scooted beneath my heavy arms

and held me up - all the time sharing a smile;

They even sang songs as we journeyed;

and whispered encouraging words;

They gave me a thousand reasons why

I couldn’t forsake my Lord.

They pointed out things I’d forgotten -

that brought a smile to my face!

They woke up a dream for the future

that I would so readily embrace!

I’d like to be that sort of encourager...

(It’s a gift from God I know.)..

And how many pilgrims would perish

But for others who treat them so?

I know that there will be millions

Of Pam's and Jean's in that Land;

And many will say, “Couldn’t have made it

without the help of such friends!”

They’ll probably blush ~ say “It’s nothing...”

But everyone there will know

They were led by God’s Holy Spirit,

He showed them the way to go!
