Not An Ordinary Frog
Beulah Marie Starr

He splashed about in the little creek
An ugly, bright green bloke
With bulging eyes and slimy skin
And a mournful, strident croak
"I am a handsome frog" he said
But to me he looked a fright
However my mother taught me
to be friendly and polite
"Now I know" the froggie said
"You are not a forward miss,
but would you be offended
if I asked you for a little kiss?"
He offered up his puckered lips
and said "I must convince,
that between this froggie framework,
there lurks a handsome prince"

Now NO ONE saw me kiss that frog
and no one heard him say
"How I love this fairy tale,
you are the fifth I've kissed today"
