AM I MY BROTHER

AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER

Sharon Steege

Am I my brothers keeper
am I really suppose to care
does it matter if those around me
have less than their share?

Is my brother or my sister
one born of my mom and dad
is it the man on the corner
the woman across the street
a little girl or maybe a young lad?

Am I really suppose to worry
if the old man stooped and slumped
might be cold and hungry and lonely
as he digs through the dump.

Is it my problem the unkempt lady
pushing her cart along
seems to shiver and droop her shoulders
when the cold harsh winter winds blow.

Is it all really my problem
or am I suppose to sit tight
and hope the sight will all go away
in my warm bed where I sleep at night.

What would my father want me to do
since he gave his son for me
shouldn't I at least reach out a hand
for less fortunate folks in need?

Please take away the selfishness
remove the foolish pride
except for the grace of ALMIGHTY GOD
that homeless person could be me tonight.

Maybe you could do something special for some one
less fortunate than you this Christmas
season... it sure feels good!
