Lightning

Lightning

June Marie Johnson

Lightning rages across the morning sky

As the thunder roars

And sweeps cancerously

Through my memories.

Merciless memories invade.

I remember us,

Together.

When the thunder wailed

You closed your eyes

As your hands

Covered your ears.

You needed to be held.

You needed me to comfort you,

You needed me, much as I needed you to need me.

Staring at this strange,

Magnificent dawn,

I lose myself again

To these overwhelming emotions.

I miss you.

I wonder if someone is holding you.

When you need it (now).

Does he understand?

Lightning

Rages across the morning sky.

Thunder seeds more memories of you ( of us)

I can't stop loving you.
