Rob Foust: Rob began his love for rock music in the summer of '63, listening to surf music (Beach Boys, Jan & Dean) and top 40 (Louie Louie, Since I Fell for You). The Beatles and the British Invasion put the icing on the cake in '64. Rob got his first guitar that year; a Harmony Spanish f-hole acoustic. In 1966 at age 14, Rob got his first electric guitar; a Harmony sunburst dual pick-up (pictured). He polished up his guitar licks anxiously awaiting to join a band.
Fred (9/67 - 8/69): Fred (originally called Krushed Ice) formed as a result of a jam session at the bass player Rich Laedline's house, after the break-up of Rich's band, the "Marauders". Through many personnel changes, in '68 Fred went on to become the House Band for Williamsport's Club Grotto, filling in for "Father's Angels" A/K/A "Prince Charles & the Royaltones" (Heritage Records) while they were on tour. Their acetate album, (mispelled "The Phred") was titled "Live at the Grotto". They won the bronze medal at the 9/68 "Battle of the Bands" at Boman Field, and backed up Todd Rundgren's "Nazz" in January '69 at the Williamsport High School. They performed their final gig in the summer of '69 before Rob went off to college.
PSU Jam Sessions (1/70 - 2/71): At PSU, Rob met a sensational guitarist, Steve Christian, and brilliant keyboardist, Chris Chaney (played with Chuck Mangionne). Rob, Steve, Chris and some other musicians at PSU, jammed often in the '69-'70 school year. Besides jamming, Rob was busy with studies, and played on the PSU baseball team in '70. Although a band was never officially formed, the musicians made a Williamsport appearence at "The Vacant Lot", and reunited in a '71 "Winter Jam" on campus at the PUB.
Bloodstone (8/70 - 6/73): In the summer of '70, Rob advertised in the Willaimsport Sun-Gazette for players to start a new band. Bloodstone formed that summer and would last for 3 years as a Hard Rock presence in the Williamsport area. Highlights include playing on KATV (local cable), backing up the "Ohio Express" at the Capital Theatre, and being booked on the bill at PSU's "Festival of Life", and with "Glass Harp". Bloodstone wrote original material, and intended to record a single with "Wayne Records", but unfortunate timing lead to the break-up of the band in '73 shortly after Rob's college graduation.
The V.I.P.'s (7/73 - 5/75): The V.I.P.'s was a well known "wedding band" in Williamsport. They had just lost a guitarist, and also their lead singer, Mike Caschera ("Spiral Starecase"). Tony Caschera, leader of the band, asked Rob to join the band (per Mike's recommendation). Jimmy Johnson, formerly a vocalist with a reuninion tour of the "Marcels" ("Blue Moon"), joined the band that year also. After a busy 2 years, Rob left the V.I.P's in the spring of '75.
Long Shot (Summer '75): Seeking to start a new band, Rob contacted Mark Deifenbacher (lead singer from Bloodstone). They placed an ad in the "trusty" Sun-Gazette and auditioned a number of musicians. Steve Hauser, bass, and Steve Rossman (former drummer of Fred) answered the ad, and completed the foursome. Although a promising band, personal reasons forced Mark to leave the band, which lead to an unfortunate break-up that same year.
Reunion (8/76 - 5/79): Reunion was an 8 piece Williamsport horn band that originated in '75. A friend of Rob's, Bert Smeal (formerly of "Here Comes the Sun"), joined Reunion in '76 as a result of some personnel changes. When one of the guitarists left, Bert recommended Rob for the open spot. Reunion became a popular night club band, playing the "Williamsport circuit", not to mention college fraternities in PA and Upper State New York. The band re-organized in '77 as a 5 man "corporate rock" local favorite until its break-up in '79.
The Spook Hollow Band (7/79 - 8/80): The Spook Hollow Band was Williamsport's Southern Rock band at its best. Rob joined Spook Hollow in '79. Because of personnel changes, the band changed their name to "Aftershock" later that year. After a busy year as the "Kings of Southern Rock" in Williamsport's night club circuit, the band called it quits.
Lyin' Eyes (Fall '80): When Steve Hauser (Long Shot) found out that Spook Hollow had broken up, and his band had just dis-banded, he called Rob to see if some willing members of his band and Rob would make a good fit. Although that formation never took off, it launched Rob and Steve into different "female" vocal bands that were very successful.
Montage (11/80 - 5/82): Montage formed in '80 after Bob Lacera's band, "Rage" broke up. Bob's wife, Mary, sang "Heart" and "Benetar" like you would not believe. The band "Montage" enjoyed a very successful year and a half of playing the Williamsport night club circuit which included the White Horse, 218, Susquehanna Hotel, South Avis Inn, Burbon Street, Powy's Park, and the Log Cabin. Rob met his wife Kathy in '81 and they were married in '82. Through renewed commitment to the Lord, Rob and other Montage band members dedicated their music to God after that time.
Revelation 13:9 (5/82 - 7/86 and 7/90 - 3/91):Revelation 13:9, including 4 of 5 members from Montage, formed a Christian rock band lasting from 1982-1991. They were the opening band for Hal Lindsey (prophetic author of "The Late Great Planet Earth" and "There's a New World Coming") in PA ('82)and New Mexico ('83). They were offered a tour sponsered by an Alberquerque Radio station, but declined due to family and job commitments. They privately recorded 6 originals, and had a "near record deal" with Susquehanna Sound. "Revelation 13:9" was one of the best known '80s Williamsport Christian rock bands.
The First Southerners (4/88 - 6/90): The First Southerners formed in 1988 with Rob and other members of the First Southern Baptist Church, Revelation 13:9, and Central Baptist's Gloryland Band. Their music ministry lasted for about a year, and included performances at nursing homes and churches. This band spawned 3 Christian music ministries; a new duo, a new trio, and Rob reunited with Revelation 13:9 from '90-'91.
Jammin' with Ramblin' Dan Stevens (April '93): After moving to State College in'92, Rob worked with Pat Stevens, mother of Ramblin' Dan Stevens, a well known blues artist and a native of Bellefonte. He has appeared with such artists as James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens, Charlie Daniels, Kathy Mattea, Livingston Taylor, Ronie Earl, and Gatemouth Brown. In April of '93, while Dan was playing at Kirby's in Lewistown, PA, Dan asked Rob to join him for a few numbers. Rob is seen here jamming with Dan. Dan's CDs "Future Blues" and "Broke Down and Hungry" have received local, national, and international acclaim. "Dan Stevens is an acknowledged master in the acoustic blues scene. " –Billtown Blues Assoc., Williamsport PA
The Little Black & White Combo (Summer '95): In '95, Rob met Bill Ward at the Evagelical Free Church in State College. Bill had independently released 3 previos albums. He and Rob got together with two other church members and put on 2 concerts, one for the youth and one for the Church Members. Bill moved away later that year before producing his latest Christian CD entitled "One Last Winter".
Jammin' with Kay Lynn and Rodney Lee (June '03): Kathy's (Rob's wife's) parents held a "hootananny" at their Williamsport home in June '03. Seen here is Rob jamming with (left to right) Rodney Lee & Kay Lynn (well known regional Gospel artists), and Denise (Blaser) Barner (formerly of "Revelation 13:9").
Jammin' with Kay Lynn and God's Country (Feb '08): Kay Lynn asked Rob to play several numbers at the Valentine's Party at the Hughesville Fie Hall on 2/17/08. Rob played along with numbers that included "Don't Be Cruel", "Teddy Bear", "It's So Easy", "This Magic Moment", "Johnny B. Goode", the hymn "Love Lifted Me", and a Kay Lynn gospel original. From left to right are Rob on guitar, Jeremy Whitmoyer on drums, and Rod Whitmoyer on guitar. The other band members not pictured are Kay Lynn on bass and lead vocals, and Jackie Whitmoyer on keyboards.
3G (Third Generation) (Summer '08) played on June 12, 2008 at the Relay for Life event in Milton, PA. Left to right are Rob (guitar) & Kathy Foust (vocals), Amy (vocals) and AJ (bass) Lambert (Rob's sister-in-law and nephew), and Rachel (drums) and Mike (guitar) Dance (Rob's daughter and son-in-law). They played cover versions of Tonic's "If You Could Only See" (with Christian lyrics), and Steve Fee's "Glorious One".
Second Sunday(7/12 – 5/18) In July 2012, Bob LaCerra (former guitarist with “Montage” and “Revelation”) called Rob to see if he would fill in for him in August with his current contemporary Christian rock band "Second Sunday". Rob agreed. Other band members were Lou & Sue Palazzo (guitar / lead vocals and keys / lead vocals), Rob Fisher (bass), and Bert Smeal on drums (former bass / keyboard player with “Reunion” and “Revelation”). After the August event, Rob Fisher and Bert exited the band. So, Rob ended up “filling in” on guitar and bass “permanently” for both “Second Sunday” and the “North Campus Praise Band” for the next 6 years. Tommy Mulcahy became the drummer for “Second Sunday” in 2015. This line-up remained until the First Church North Campus closed Sunday services in May 2018. “Second Sunday” did a “reunion” performance in August 2019 at the Brandon Park bandshell. Also, Tom and Rob reunited with Lou and Sue from August 2021 to May 2022 at Faith United Methodist Church in Montoursville along with Dan Klinger (violin) who joined in January 2022. This formation was known as Lou, Sue & Friends. Pictured is "Second Sunday" (1st row): Lou Palazzo, Sue Palazzo, and Bob LaCerra, (2nd row): Tommy Mulcahy and Rob Foust
”CLC Praise Band” (5/18 – 6/23) After the North Campus closed Sunday services in 5/18, Rob began filling in regularly on guitar and bass with the First Church “CLC (Christian Life Center) Praise Band”. There are about 11 awesome musicians that rotate week to week. Pictured is one iteration of the band (from left to right): Rob Foust (bass), Jon Saylor (guitar and lead vocals), Tommy Mulcahy (drums), and Jamie Caputo (keys and lead vocals).
