Welcome to the Web
Site of the Tamaqua-Shenandoah Educational Consortium.
The Tamaqua Area School District and the
Shenandoah Valley School District formed an
educational partnership in August 2001 to
collaboratively develop strategies and products to
improve student achievement in their school
districts. Using funds provided by a P.D.E.,
Educate America Grant they enlisted the support of The
Aster Group Inc. to assist them in the process.
They formed school-based teams in each district
to work on language arts standards and a second team
to work on mathematics standards. The language
arts teams collaborated during the Fall of 2001 and
the math teams collaborated during the winter-spring
of 2002. Science and ecology standards were
completed during the spring of 2002.
Team members from each district received
professional development on academic standards, performance
assessment and technology integration.
The team members from each district are prepared to
offer training and mentoring activities to other
staff members in their
respective districts.
Language Arts Standards
A
complete set of language arts standards have been
developed from the approved PA State
standards. Our standards take the state
standards and further develop them to provide
grade level standards at every grade from
K-12. You can view the entire set of standards
by selecting the reading, writing or language arts
standard's matrices from the standards table.
Or you may view the specific grade level standards
by selecting the appropriate grade and subject.
The standards are available to teachers,
students, parents and other stakeholders by merely
clicking on the appropriate link.
Mathematics Standards
The mathematics
standards documents that will guide instruction in grades K-12
in the Tamaqua Area and Shenandoah Valley School
Districts are completed. As with the language arts
standards, a K-12 matrix of expanded standards and
specific grade and course standard documents are
available.
Science and
Ecology Standards
The most challenging
task undertaken by the science staffs in the Tamaqua
and Shenandoah School Districts was the development
of standards in science and technology and ecology
and environmental science that could be successfully
implemented and integrated in the school
curriculum. No subject area resulted in
greater curricular than than science. In each
grade science and ecology standards were integrated
into the core science course. Many of the
technology standards were designated for inclusion
in specifically designed technology courses in each district.
Some of the ecology standards are integrated into
the social science curriculum.
