On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law;  To help other people at all times;  And to keep myself physically stong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

A hearty congratulation to those Scouts who were presented with awards at tonight's Court of Honor.  The following awards were presented:  2 Scout Rank badges, 1 Tenderfoot badge, 1 Second Class badge, and 2 Space Exploration merit badges.  The Scouts and leaders who attended Snowbound on 1-9-04 were also recognized during the Court of Honor and presented with their participant patches.

The Committee meeting on December 11 was very productive.  Financial statements for the year 2004 were reviewed and a preliminary budget was considered.  The committee heard from the Senior Patrol Leader regarding the 2004 Program Plan.  Some highlights of the plan include a backpacking trip in May and a Canoe trip in September.  The next committee meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2004.  The Troop Guidebook and Bylaws will be discussed at that meeting.

Troop 53's Lightning Patrol, composed of twelve Scouts, splits into two patrols of six Scouts each.  They have yet to choose names, but have elected Patrol Leaders.

Troop 53 along with Pack 53 serve as color guards for the kickoff of the local American Cancer Society chapter's Relay For Life.  Along with presenting the colors, the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts aided the ACS in a simulated luminaria ceremony.

Troop 53's Court of Honor at Camp Trexler at 8:00 PM awarded merit badges to all Scouts who attended summer camp, presented two Scouts with Scout Rank, presented one Scout with Tenderfoot Rank, presented certificates from Northampton County Emergency Management, and installed 6 Scouts as Troop 53's Junior Leader Corp.

"Boy Scouts trapped in Nursing Home fire." is what the newspaper headline would read.  At 6:15 PM, volunteers from Troop 53 met at Gracedale Nursing Home in Northampton County to be victims in a training exercise put on by the Northampton County Disaster Management Agency.  Although it was not a full exercise complete with makeup and EMS transport, the experience did give the Scouts an insight into fire department operations and coordinated responses to mass disasters such as a nursing home fire.  The participants received a certificate and letter from Northampton County.

Troop 53 took second place for the week 5 chili cook-off at Camp Trexler!  The judges debated between ours and the first place winner over who should get first place!  Troop 53 would like to thank Mr. Sedora for the ingredients.  We called it the "Troop 53 Special Cornbread Chili" because we actually messed it up.  We wanted to bake the cornbread mix on top of the bubbling chili, but it didn't work out.  We ended up using the cornbread mixture as a thickening agent which created globules of delicious flavor in the chili.  Second place out of roughly 20 troops isn't bad.  Good going guys!
