On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my Country and to obey the Scout Law;  To help other people at all times;  And to keep myself physically stong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

June 5-6: Backpacking Trip

The backpacking trip will be the first backpacking trip the troop is taking.  Since it will likely be a first time experience for many of the Scouts, it will be a short trip to the Whitehall Parkway.  The trip will give Scouts a taste of backpacking and prepare them for more involved future trips.
This will be the first trip to have requirements placed on it.  These requirements will be:  1)  A current copy of the BSA Medical Form must be in the troop's possession.  2)  A permission slip must be submitted 2 weeks prior to the trip.  3)  The Scout must obtain the trip leader's permission to attend the trip.  4)  The Scout must attend a shakedown the meeting before the trip.  5)  The Scout must agree to the code of conduct for the trip.
The Scout will need his own backpack for this trip.  Although it is possible that one may be rented from Council or borrowed from a friend, it is the Scout's responsibility to look into it.  Dick's Sporting Goods and Army & Navy both carry reasonably priced packs in a fairly wide selection of brands and styles.  It is highly recommended that the Scout purchase a pack rather than rent or borrow one, as it can be properly fitted to the Scout.
