Cambria Township Volunteer Fire Company has bought a new, state of the art fire engine as a replacement for its' 24 year old, outmoded Engine 401. At a total cost of $328,626, this was no minor purchase for our small firefighting organization. In an effort to assist the fire company and the community it serves, the Colver Power Project made a hefty donation toward acquisition of the vehicle. On October 08, 2003, the Colver Power Project invited members from Station 40 to their business offices for the ceremonious check presentation in the amount of $35,000. Engine 401, by design, will serve both the roles of an engine and rescue. Purchased from Ferrara Fire Apparatus, the engine is a 2003 Ferrara Inferno, with an 8 man cab, 1500 GPM Waterous fire pump, 200 CFM Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS), 750 gallon water tank, and an integrated 30 gallon class A foam tank. The engine will also carry the Hurst Tool - commonly known as the "jaws of life", and rescue air bags, and a variety of other rescue tools. E-401 will also carry the Quick Response Service (QRS) certification, which is an emergency medical services (EMS) response designation for basic life support providers. This certification will allow use of the new engine to respond to EMS calls when the QRS vehicle is already on a call or out of service. |
