Resident Evil Zero - Nintendo 64

Rumors began to surface as far back as 1997 that Capcom had a Resident Evil game in the works for the Nintendo 64, but it wasn't until late in 1999 that it was officially announced - and that one of the main characters would be the young, but resourceful S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team medic, Rebecca Chambers. Capcom's initial movement was to port Resident Evil 2 to the Nintendo 64 in order to give N64 owners a taste of what Resident Evil was all about. This port of Resident Evil 2, howver, contained all new files realting back to Resident Evil, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Resident Evil -CODE: Veronica-, and ones that would give information on the future Resident Evil Zero.

Capcom stated that the game would be set up to tell the stories behind some of the original Resident Evil mysteries, such as what had become of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team, including other mysteries of the game itself. Not only would more information become known about the S.T.A.R.S., but more secrets of the sinister Umbrella Corporation would be exposed. As more information became known about the game, it wasn't long until we were introduced to the mysterious new playable character, Billy Coen. Throughout all of the year 2000, Capcom released more information about the prequel to Resident Evil. Much of the information of the game had come from the 20% complete version of the game made into a demo shown at the Spring Tokyo Games Show. We eventually learned that the item boxes we had all come to love from the Resident Evil games would be eliminated and we would now be able to drop items whenever and wherever we wanted and that we would also be able to play as both characters at the same time - we would be able to switch between characters on the fly. Slowly, however, information on the prequel basically stopped.

It wasn't until a few months later that new rumors had surfaced on the fate of Resident Evil Zero. It was said that the game was to be moving to another console or it may be entirely scrapped. It was finally (and officially) announced that the game would be moved to Nintendo's upcoming Gamecube console. According to the producer of Resident Evil Zero, the game was well into production, but the team realized that the game wouldn't fit one just one Nintendo cartridge and that making the game on two cartridges would be very costly - that's when the decision to move the game to the Nintendo Gamecube was made. The basic storyline of the game was kept, but as you'll be able to tell from the N64 screenshots (below) compared to the Gamecube screenshots, the transition to the new console called for a major graphical overhaul.
