Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteer Opportunities
2002 - 2003

We need your help!  Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time this year to enrich your children's school experience.  Opportunities exist for one-time committments, small blocks of time, working from home, working during or after school, working in the evening or weekends.  If you have some time to give, we have a way to utilize your time and talents to help our children.  Contact Debbie Baldwin (610-593-1185) or Angie Swartzentruber (717-442-3256) if you are interested in helping with any of these activities.

Fundraising

Chair:  Jane Haught
Selected PTO fundraising sales need help with the following jobs:  organizing, placing orders, unloading trucks, and distributing items.
Good for a one-time committment!

Market Day

Chair:  Deb Jury
Monthly sales need volunteers to unpack and distribute Market Day food.  Market Day Pick-up Dates as follows:  Oct. 1, 2002; Oct. 29, 2002; Nov. 26, 2002; Jan. 7, 2003; Feb. 4, 2002; Mar. 4, 2003; Apr. 1, 2003; May 6, 2003; June 3, 2003..  Please come help at on one or more dates!
If you are placing an order and have to pick it up, this might be an opportunity to help anywhere from one-half hour to a couple of hours!

Childcare

Chair(s): Megan Raimato
Need parent volunteers to care for children during school functions (both PTO and school sponsored activities).
Great if you have young children!

Publishing Center
Chair:  Diane Lubrano
Type student's work, prepare book covers, and bind books at school or home.
Great activity for small blocks of time !

Art Goes to School


A one to two week event in the spring..  Organize volunteers, visit and discuss artwork with students.  Training provided by Art Goes to School Organization.

Book Fair

Co-Chair:  Susan Simpson & Lisa Bowman
A two week event in the fall and spring to bring books for sale to students.  The fall book fair is usually held during the weeks of Parent-Teacher Conferences.  The spring book fair is usually held during the spring open house.  Opportunities for volunteering include:  Setting up the books, Working one or more shift during school hours for children to purchase books during their library time, Working one or more shift on the nights the book fair is open for parents and children to purchase books, Tearing down the fair.
An easy one time committment for a couple of hours either during school or in the evening!

Spring Fair

Chair:  Maureen Byerly, Linda Haslett, Deb Jones &
A one night event held on a Friday night in May.  Plan games, activities and food.  Volunteer for set-up or clean-up.  Volunteer to man booths, games, activities.
There's a job here suitable for everyone.  From the person who can only spare an hour or two - to someone up for the challenge of organizing a fairly large event!

Music Aide

Chair:  Deb Baldwin
Assist Mrs. Homsher with musical programs and rehearsals.

Elves Workshop

Chair:  Deb Baldwin & Jane Haught
Held in conjunction with the craft show.  Plan, organize, and set up workshop for children to do holiday shopping.

Field Day

Chair:  Deb Baldwin & Jane Haught
A one day event held in May or June.  Assist PE teachers.

Hospitality

Chair:  Needed
Provide refreshments for PTO functions.
Great for people who like to bake!

Canned Food Drive

Organize food to be given to needy families for the holidays.  (Usually held in November).

RIF

Chair:  Nina Thwaites
A one week event held three times a year where each child gets a free book.  Help order books and distribute to students.

Recycling

Chair:  Heidi Ferry
Volunteer to research and organize a recycling program for OPLC and OES.  

Office Assistant
Chair:  Heather Aubry
Volunteers to make copies of PTO notices to be sent home with children, count and distribute in teacher's mailboxes.

Short Term Assistants
Chair:  Heather Aubry
Miscellaneous short term projects assisting teachers at home or school.

Assist Reading Department
Chair:  Needed
Preparation of various reading materials to be used within reading department.

Craft Show
Chair:  Carol Lewis
Help organize a craft show to be held on a Friday night in December.

Phone Calls
Volunteer to make reminder phone calls from your home for pick-ups for OES-PTO fundraisers.

Teacher Appreciation Lunch
Chair(s):  Robin McKenna & Jeannie Ohnmacht
We need a chairperson for OPLC and OES (could be two different people) to organize the teacher appreciation luncheon in the spring.  Volunteers are needed to help provide food, misc. supplies, and serve.

Library Aides
Chair:  Nina Thwaites
Help in the library with various projects throughout the year.

Family Programs
Chair(s):  Cindy Barker & Helen Leibig
Volunteer to assist with special family events planned throughout the year.  Past activities have included roller skating, family bingo and magic shows.

Earth Day
A one-day event in April.  Organize, order and deliver earth day projects.  This event will be held on 04-25-03.
