Volunteer Opportunities 2003-2004


We need your help! Please consider volunteering a few hours of your time this year to enrich your children's school experience. Opportunities exist for one-time committments, small blocks of time, working from home, working during or after school, working in the evenings or weekends. If you have some time to give, we have a way to utilize your time and talents to help our children. Please check as many activites as you are interested in.

Committee/Event - Description    


Fundraising - Assist with distribution of fundraising items…candles, food items, candy, or any other items that the PTO selects as fundraisers


Market Day—Volunteer monthly to unpack and distribute Market Day food.


Childcare--Organize parent volunteers to care for children during school functions, PTO meetings, etc.  IF WE HAVE NO VOLUNTEERS, THESE SERVICES WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE.


Welcome Back Breakfast - We need a chairperson for the OPLC & OES to organize a breakfast at the beginning of the school year.  Breakfast usually consists of items such as doughnuts, bagels, juice and coffee.


Recycling---Volunteer to research and organize a recycling program for OPLC & the Elementary School.


Office Assistant---Volunteers to make copies of PTO notices to be sent home with children, count and distribute in teacher’s mailboxes.


Publishing Center—Type student’s work, prepare book covers, and bind books at school or home.


Short Term Assistants—Miscellaneous short term projects assisting teachers at home or school.


Assist Reading Department---Preparation of various reading materials to be used within the reading department.


Book Fair—A two week event in the Fall & Spring. Work with the Librarian to organize volunteers to work during the event. (Looking for Co-Chairs.)


Music Aide—Help Mrs. Homsher with musical programs and rehearsals


Craft Show—Help organize a craft show to be held on a Friday night in December.


Art Goes to School—A one-two week event in the spring.  Organize volunteers, visit and discuss artwork with students. Training provided by Art Goes to School Organization.


Phone Calls—Volunteer to make reminder phone calls from your home for pick-ups for OES PTO fundraisers.


Teacher Appreciation Luncheon—We need a chairperson for OPLC & OES to organize the teacher appreciation luncheon in May.  Volunteers are needed to help provide food, misc. supplies, and serve.


Spring Fair—Plan and organize games and volunteers for this fun Friday night event in May.


Elves Workshop—Held in conjunction with Craft Show. Plan, organize and set up workshop for children to do holiday shopping.


Hospitality—Co-chairs and volunteers to provide refreshments for PTO functions and other functions at the school.


Canned Food Drive—Organize food to be given to needy families for the holidays.


RIF—A one week event three times a year. Help order books, organize parent volunteers, and distribute books to students.


Library Aides—Help in the library with various projects throughout the year.


Family Programs—Volunteer to assist with special family events planned throughout the year


Earth Day—A one day event in April. Organize, order and delivery of earth projects. This event will be held the week of April 19, 2004.
