NAP TIME IN THE PASTURE - Tim, Rio, and Granny's Pistol Pete

Did you know that Trigger, Roy Roger's horse, was a Mountain Pleasure horse out of Pennsylvania?
For more than 160 years, Eastern Kentucky people have been utilizing and raising the gaited MOUNTAIN HORSE for hard work and pleasure because they have a good disposition, an easy 4-beat lateral gait, and are sure-footed.

VERSATILITY

The horses are utilized in the fields for plowing and harvesting.
Pulling a cart or sleigh is natural to them, as well as trail riding and show.

DISPOSITION

Mountain horses are known for being intelligent, and easy learners. They make quiet, willing, and obedient partners. Curiosity is another delightful trait. A little humor: OWN ONE - and you will replace your mate with a new one, that talks, but not back...

GAIT/CONFORMATION/COLORS

The mountain horses have a 4-beat lateral gait. The beat can be distinctly heard as the horse moves out. This gait produces a smooth, easy ride, without exaggerated knee and hock action. It is a natural ability for the horse without any harsh aids, devices, or training. The average height is between 14.0 - 15.3 hands. Weights will vary from 1000 - 1300 pounds. The horses tend to be strong, stocky built, and sure footed. Their body colors should be solid, with white only on the lower legs, face, mane, and tail. The color ranges are many, such as palominos, bays, cremelos, buckskins, sorrels, blacks, chocolate, roans, etc..
