August 2nd, 1971

Headline for today: A Boy Scout drum and bugle band marches past the flagpoles as national flags of the 100 participating nations are raised in an official ceremony at the Jamboree site Sunday [August 1st, 1971]. The 13th World Boy Scout Jamboree opens today at the Asagiri Heights on the western slope of Mt. Fuji.
The first day of the Jamboree we learned the basic schedule for each day. Our cooks, of course, got up early and they were woken up at 05:30am. They went to the sub-camp commisary and picked up breakfast early. The rest of us were gotten up about 06:00 am.

At 07:00 am we had our breakfast and had an hour to enjoy it before the formal flag-raising at 08:30, which started the Morning Activity Period, which would conclude at 11:00 am.

Our noontime break and lunch would last until 13:30, and our Afternoon Activity period would conlude at 16:30 when we would return to our troop campsite and have a dinner break until 18:00 when we had the formal flag-lowering at 18:00.

Starting at 19:00 there ere evening activities, which would conclude at 21:00, and at 21:30 we had a call to quarters, with lights out at 22:00.

This first day of the Jamboree was basically a shaking out day, however, we had the Opening Ceremonies which were held between 13:30 to 18:00
