----The leading cause of Amazon deforestation is the logging industry. Numerous goods such as furniture and paper are made from rainforest wood, but could easily be made of another kind of wood, recycled products, or different material. However, the profit from extracted trees usually does not go to the developing countries that give up their timber. Instead, the money goes to the multi-national corporations who buy the land at a low price and sell the wood collected from it for thousands of dollars. Even if the needy areas did recieve the earnings, it is not worth the devestating effects on the Amazon ecosystem. Logging companies typically do not leave enough trees for an area to recover.
