December 2003

  • December Soror of the Month.  This month, the chapter recognizes Soror Selina Quinn for her excellent service to the sisterhood.  Soror Quinn worked extremely hard to coordinate a successful Face the Facts program and we salute her efforts!!
     

  • NPHC News:  The election results are in!!  Congratulations to Soror Amy Dougherty who was elected as Executive Vice President of the PSU NPHC.  We know that she will do an excellent job!!  Kappa Rho would like to thank Soror Shantel Scott, Soror Kristen King, and Soror Tinnesha Devaughn for their hard work on the NPHC executive board this past year--you have set a wonderful example of leadership for future Sigma women to follow!!  Congratulations to all the new officers of the PSU NPHC!!

November 2003

  • November Soror of the Month.  This month, the chapter recognizes Soror Renaye Brown for her excellent service to the sisterhood.  Despite her busy scholastic schedule, applications to law school, and many other commitments, Soror Brown has held Sigma's Torch high and we salute her!!
     

  • Congratulations to our advisor, Soror Monika Alston, whose research was selected for presentation at the November National Communication Association Conference!!
     

  • November was yet another busy month for the ladies of Kappa Rho!!  We would like to thank the men of Kappa Alpha Psi at Shippensburg University for the invitation to come and step on their campus this month.  We also would like to thank everyone who showed us love as we celebrated Sigma's 81st birthday on November 12th!!
     

  • Founder's Day Notes:  A special thanks to Soror Shantel Scott who officiated a beautiful ceremony for the chapter on our Founder's Day.  It was a special evening for sisterhood that none of us should soon forget!!

October 2003

  • Congratulations to Soror Kristen King, who has been named the Sigma Soror of the Month for October.  As Vice President of the chapter, Soror King has consistently worked hard to support the programs and service of the organization.  Additionally, she has done a great job fulfilling her responsibilities as our chapter's membership chair while also staying on top of her responsibilities as Vice President of the PSU National Panhellenic Council.
     

  • A SPECIAL thank you to the men of the Lambda Lambda chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.  It was wonderful to work with you on the "Where is the Love" program and we look forward to further collaboration between our organizations in the near future.

September 2003

  • Congratulations to Soror Odinae Amoi Fisher who has been named the Sigma Soror of the Month for September.  As both the recording and financial secretary of the chapter, Soror Fisher has done an excellent job keeping our chapter on track this month.  We appreciate her contributions to the growing legacy of the Kappa Rho chapter!!
     

  • After much studying and prepping, Soror Renaye Brown faced the challenges of the LSAT exams.  Congrats sorors on getting past this hurdle and we will be here to support you through your law school applications!!!  Best wishes to Soror Kristen King who will be taking the LSAT in December!!

Summer 2003 News!!

  • The Ladies of Kappa Rho have stayed busy over the summer and are excited for the upcoming year--here's a quick peep at what they've been up to....
     

  • Sorors Shantel Scott (June), Tinnesha Devaughn (July), Amy Dougherty (August) were named our Outstanding Sigma Sorors for the Summer.  These sorors worked throughout their summer vacation to make sure that the chapter business for the fall was in order.
     

  • Soror Crystal Allen completed her internship with the Second Mile, a state organization devoted to at-risk youth.  Soror Allen will be graduating with a B.S in Rehabilitation Services on August 9th, 2003.  Congratulations Soror Allen!!!  Soror Allen will be residing in the local area and will remain active with Delta Phi Sigma alumnae chapter in the fall.
     

  • Soror Courtney Robinson, our May graduate, is now employed with Hormel Foods in Birmingham, AL.  Congratulations on your new position soror!!
     

  • Sorors Kristen King and Renaye Brown recently completed the Pennsylvania State Dickinson Summer Law Scholars Program.  This selective summer opportunity was an intense exposure to the rigors of law school and we are pRHOud of our sorors' excellent work at Dickinson.
     

  • We are also proud to announce that our advisor, Soror Monika Alston, will be receiving her MA in Communication Arts and Sciences on August 9th.  We are excited that Soror Alston has chosen to remain at Penn State to begin work on her PhD in September!!

May 2003 News

  • Congratulations to Soror Courtney Robinson who will be graduating from the SMEAL School of Business on May 17, 2003!!
     

  • The ladies of Kappa Rho would like to wish everyone a safe, fun-filled summer.  Stay tuned for our summer happenings--there will be a number of Sigma ladies on campus over the summer working hard for the blue and gold!!

April 2003 News

  • April 13, 2003: The 2002-2003 PSU Greek Oscars were held to recognize outstanding achievement in the Penn State Greek community.  Sigma Gamma Rho received SIX awards-Congratulations Sorors!!

  • April 12, 2003: The ladies of the Kappa Rho chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. took home the first place sorority trophy at the annual PSU NPHC Stepshow!!  Congratulations Sorors!!!  Special thanks and appreciation to Soror Tinnesha Devaughn and Soror Temi Aregbesola for your hard work in making this happen in such a short time--you showed true Sigma dedication--thank you sorors!!
     

  • Congratulations to our advisor, Soror Monika Alston, who was recently accepted into the Communication Arts and Sciences PhD program here at Penn State!!
     

  • Congratulations to one of our newest sorors, Soror Selina Quinn, for being the first recipient of the 2003-2004 Towers Perrin Career Services Scholarship!
     

  • Additional congratulations are due to Soror Renaye Brown and Soror Kristen King for their recent acceptance into the Pennsylvania State Dickinson Summer Law Scholars Program. We know you will reprhosent bluetifully sorors!!

March 2003 News

  • On March 29, 2003, Spring 2003 "Virtuous" was born!  Kappa Rho is excited about our newest sorors and we are confident that the will continue our tradition of class and excellence here at Penn State.  Stay tuned to the members pages for pictures and profiles of our growing chapter.
     

  • The ladies of Kappa Rho would like to thank everyone who came out to support our 2003 Sigma Week.  We hope that you enjoyed your time with us and we look forward to offering you additional positive programs geared to our community in the future.

February 2003 News

  • Congratulations to Soror Crystal Allen for succeeding in her quest for a summer internship.  She will be working this summer with the Second Mile.

January 2003 News!!

  • THIS JUST IN!!  The ladies of Kappa Rho earned the highest GPA of all NPHC organizations at Penn State for Fall 2002!  Kappa Rho's 3.23 semester average ranked #15 out of all 84 Greek lettered organizations on campus!!!  A special congratulations goes out to Soror Kristen King who had the highest GPA in the chapter for Fall 2002.  Continue to hold Sigma's torch high!!

  • Happy New Year!!!  Welcome back to all Penn State students; we hope you had a wonderful break and best wishes on the new semester!

December 2002

  • The ladies of Kappa Rho would like to wish the students of Pennsylvania State University good luck on their upcoming finals.  As you travel home for the holidays, we hope that you will travel safely and have a wonderful winter break!! See you in January!!

November 2002

  • Kappa Rho thanks everyone that came out to support our Founder's Week events.  November 12 marked 80 years of service for our sorority and we are excited to share this special time with all of you.  We look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve our community in the years to come!
     

  • CONGRATS TO THE NEW MEMBERS OF THE PSU NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL EXECUTIVE BOARD!!   The ladies of Kappa Rho will fill three of the executive positions for the upcoming year!  Congratulations to Soror Shantel Scott (Executive Vice-President), Soror Crystal Allen (Vice President of Finance) and Soror Kristen King (Vice President of Programming).  The executive board will be installed in a formal ceremony on November 18, 2002 at 6:00pm in the HUB.  We send best wishes to all of the newly elected officers and look forward to the coming year for NPHC.

October 2002

  • HOT OFF THE PRESSES!!  If you haven't received the latest copy of the Aurora--check with your mail carrier!  The Fall/Winter 2002 issue our sorority's Aurora is now available, featuring a cover story on Representative (and Soror) Corrine Brown of Florida.  The ladies of Kappa Rho are among several chapter featured in the "Undergraduate Focus."  Our chapter thanks Soror Crystal Allen for submitting this piece and Editor-in-Chief Soror Joann Loveless (Delta Phi Sigma chapter) for another beautiful issue of the Aurora!
     

  • Kappa Rho would like to thank all of our Greek family and friends that came out in support of our Homecoming Party and Raffle.  Your support is appreciated and will be remembered!  We hope that you will think about joining us in our community service efforts later this month.

September 2002

  • Soror Kristen King was recently elected the Parliamentarian of the NPHC at Penn State.  Congratulations Soror King--we know you will represent for the Blue and Gold well on the NPHC executive board.
