Q: What supplies does my child need at home each night to complete their homework?
A: Your child should bring home with them each night the following supplies: Student Reference Book, Math Folder, Math Notebook, and their Geometry template.
Q: What if I do not understand the algorithm that my child is to use to complete their homework?
A: This is the purpose of bringing home the Student Reference Book each night. This book gives step by step instructions on all algorithms used as well as examples that will help both you and your child.
Q: What should I do if my child is simply unable to complete tonight's homework?
A: It is the teacher's goal to only assign homework which the child should be able to competently complete after that day's in-class work. However, if your child is confused they should attempt the work to the best of their ability and the parent should attach a note as to the problems that were encountered.
Q: Can I teach my child "my way" of doing a math problem?
A: Everyday math encourages children to learn a variety of methods for completing a problem and then choose the one that works best for them. Teaching your child another method is not completely discouraged, however it may confuse them during class when they see it another way or have to practice the taught method for a specific skill quiz. So, while it is not completely discouraged please introduce it as just another way of completing the problem.
Q: What is the purpose of the Math boxes?
A: Math boxes review old skills, practice currently taught skills, and introduce upcoming skills.
