The Madison Mad Dogs had the same owner as the Green Bay Bombers. After a 10-4 regular season, Ecklund's teams met in the playoffs. The Mad Dogs beat the Bombers, 46-19 and advanced to play the Louisiana Bayou Beast for the Championship. They lost, 42-41. After the 1998 season, Kerry Ecklund took his teams and formed the rival Indoor Football League. After Madison played two years in their new league, the team did not become part of the IFL/AF2 merger and no team has surfaced in Madison since 2000.
