The Roanoke Steam was a very disappointing franchise. In their inaugural season, they posted just three victories and in their three years won only five games on the road. With season records of 3-13, 7-9, and 8-8 respectively, the Steam never made the postseason. By the third season, the team could barely draw 2,000 fans to their home games, so after the 2002 season, the team folded.
