The Lightning (2-0) scored early and often in the first half against the Fargo Freeze (02-) en route to a 61-34 victory infornt of 4,805 fans.
Lincoln scored on all 6 of its first half posessions with Josh Luedtke leading the way on 8 for 9 passing for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jay Sims, who led all rushers with 94 yards, had a 41 touchdown run, while Frenchie Buckner, Tom Starck, and Clester Johnson all had receiving touchdowns.
Johnson started the scoring barage in the 48-14 first half on a two yard run with 13:00 minutes left in the first quarter. Fargo answered tbe next drive with a six-yard touchdown run by Randy Martin. Martin finished with 3 touchdowns leading the Freeze. The next time tjat Fargo was able to get on the board was with 4:24 left in the half, trailing 34-7.
The second half started off slow for the Lightning. They were stopped on downs their first two posessions and didn't score until 11:30 left in the game on a Luedtke to Johnson touchdown pass. The conversion made the score 55-28. Charles Bodady finished the Lightning scoring on an eight-yard run with 4:35 left in the game.
Ben Buettenback had a solid game on defense recording 12 tackles, intercepting a pass for a touchdown, and having 2 pass break-ups. Troy Dumas added 11 tackles and also intercepted a pass, which he returned for a touchdown.
