In 1749, Matthias Heinlein and his son, David, arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the passenger ship called "The Patience". At that time the last name was changed to Heinly. Matthias settled in the area of Lower Macungie Township in what is now Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. David settled in Greenwich Township in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is there that his homestead still stands. David Heinly became a member of Dunkel's Church in Greenwich Township. David died in 1784, he is buried in the adjacent cemetery along with many of his descendents. Matthias died in 1775 and is buried in Lehigh Cemetery in Lehigh County.
