Survive the horror...

It was announced in February of 2001 that Capcom and Namco were teaming up to make the second first person shooter based on Capcom's award winning series, "Resident Evil." This time, however, the game was to be made for Japanese arcades and would be titled "Biohazard: Firezone." It wasn't long before the game was re-titled to "Biohazard: Gun Survivor 2 - CODE: Veronica." News of the second game in the "Gun Survivor" series came with little anticipation from the public, especially since the original game, "Resident Evil Survivor" bombed almost immediately upon release accompanied by horrible reviews.

In this new first person shooter, players would be returning to Rockfort Island - the home of Capcom's Dreamcast game, Resident Evil: -CODE Veronica- Being the first two player game in the Resident Evil series, players would take on the roles of -CODE: Veronica-'s two protagonists, Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside, in a race to escape the T-virus and lurking horrors on Rockfort Island. Various enemies from the original -CODE: Veronica- game would return in addition to enemies from previous Resident Evil titles, including the Licker (from Resident Evil 2) and Nemesis (from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis).

The game seemed to bring in very little revenue during its testing at arcades and gaming events in Japan in 2001. The game continued on throughout 2001 until Capcom announced that a home version for the Playstation 2 was soon to be released. It was also announced that the home version would support Namco's Guncon 2. In November of 2001, the Japanese Playstation 2 version of the game was released to the public. The game came with added extra features not found in the arcade game including extra characters, different playing modes, bonus files, and other minor adjustments. The Playstation 2 version of the game was later released to PAL gamers in February of 2002. This new title in the "Resident Evil" series, however, would not be released to the American and Canadian public for the following reason as stated by Capcom:

"Unfortunately the game has not been released in the US and Canada as it was deemed inappropriate by SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment of America) due to the game content and the use of a gun peripheral. The game will not receive a release in this region."
