Grave of Captain Henry A. Marchant. He was born in 1838. Enlisted in the 23rd PA at the age of 23 and was Mustered into the 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, "Birney's Zouaves", on August 2nd 1861 as a First Lieut.of Company F. Promoted to Captain of Company I on January 1st 1863, "New Years Day." On June 1st 1864 during the Battle of Cold Harbor Virginia, Captain Henry Marchant was shot and mortally wounded. He died and was returned for his funeral in Philadelphia, before being transfered to Brooklyn New York for burial in Green-Wood Cemetery.
The Grave of Sgt. Frank M. Worth, Company H, 23rd PVI. Frank was mustered into service on August 20th 1861 at the Skuykill Arsenal in Philadelphia, PA. He was wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill on July 1st 1862. He was promoted to Color Sgt., after finding out that Sgt. Samuel F. Bolton was killed on the first volley of the Battle of Fair Oaks on May 31st. As the Color Sgt. he was again wounded at the Battle of Cold Harbor on June 1st 1864. He was captured and sent to Libby Prison. After the war he settled in Minnesota. He is buried in Woodside Cemetery in Shorewood, MN. He is buried about twenty yards in front of the flagpole. The Grave of Musician James C. Farrow of the 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, Birney's Zouaves". He was a member of the regimental band and was wounded at the Battle of Fair Oaks on May 31st 1862. He was discharged that same day. The rest of the band was Discharged by General Order on August 4th 1862. After the war , he relocated to Illinois. He died on November 16th 1913 and is buried at Danville National Cemetery in Plot: 7, 1850/R11.
The Grave of Private James C. Kroessen of Company G, 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers. James was born in Philadelphia in 1842. James enlisted in the 23rd on September 1st 1861 in Philadelphia. He was wounded at the Battle of Fair Oaks (Richmond,VA) on May 31st 1862 and again at Marye's Heights (2nd Fredericksburg) on May 3rd 1863 as he charged the heights. He was absent at the Hospital at the muster out on September 8th 1864. He is buried at Green Lawn Cemetery in Franklin County Ohio in Section Y, Lot 2 , Grave 1.
The Grave of Pvt. Joseph S.C.Taber, Company B, 23d PV. He was enlisted on July 15th 1861 at the skukill Arsenal in Philadelphia,PA. Served with Company B,23rd PA Volunteers. Because of his reading,mapping and writing abilities he was detached for service as a orderly. Served in Co. B, 23rd Regiment Penna. Vol. & Co. F 82nd Regiment Penna. Vol. These regiments were consolidated in 1864. Reenlisted January 26, 1864 as a Vet Vol. Discharged July 13, 1865 at Halls Hill, VA & Washington D.C. Married May 1st 1873 Washington D.C. by a Methodist minister. Married to Mary E. Barnard, born May 1841 at Washington D.C. Child born July 2nd 1875 , Philadelphia,PA. Childs name Joesph Lackey Taber he died on June 2nd 1903 , Chicago, Illinois. Resided after Service, Washington D.C. 1865-1876. Philadelphia,PA 1876-1884. St. Paul, Minn 1884. Chicago , Illinois 1884-1890. Omaha , Nebraska 1890-1894. Kansas City , MO 1894-1901. Texarkana , Texas 1901-1905. Texarkansas , Ark 1905-1908. Dallas, Texas 1908. Civilian Occupation after service , Clerk. Died May 19th 1908 , Dallas , Texas , Kidney Failure. Age 64 years 10 months. His body was taken to Paola Kansas and buried in Paola Cemetery. Widow Mary E. (Barnard) Taber ,78 years old and living in Kansas City , MO. On September 18th 1919.
