Rules
"The Opportunity" is a game of skills and intelligence, but overall, it is a game of luck. Gameplay consists of ten (10) players who, every hour (round), particpate in two events: (1) One team event and (2) One individual event. Each events can earn either the team or individual(s) point(s). A player is not notified of their score by the host until the end of the round. The player's score returns to zero (0) at the start of the next round. At the end of each of the nine (9) rounds, one of the ten (10) players is eliminated. The player to avoid elimination throughout the game, ultimately being the final player remaining, will win the grand prize of $500.
Events
In each round, excluding the final round, there are two events, each of a different type. The first event is a team event. The other being an individual event.
During a team event, all of the players will work together as a multiple amount of smaller divisions (teams). The team that succeeds in the task will receive an announced number of points. In some events, a team in a lower standing (2nd place, 3rd place, ...etc.) will still receive points at a lower quantity than the succeeding team. (e.g. The winners get 5 points, the second place team gets 3 points, the third, and last, place team receives no points.) In every team, event, there will be at least one group that receives zero (0) points.
During an individual event, each player in the game will be playing for himself/herself. Each individual event, such as the team event possibility described above, will have a range of points for players to receive; however, there will always be one or more player receiving an amount of zero (0) points.
The "events" described above will be tasks of mental and physical ability. Such events could include, but are not limited to: quizzes, races, relays, or puzzles.
Points
During any event, a player, as part of a team or as an individual, can receive points. The maximum number of points that a player can receive during a round varies from 10 to 25 points and is announced to the players before each round begins. While a player is free to keep a record of their scores, the scores are not announced until the completion of the round.
The player who, during a round, scores the highest amount of points, becomes excluded from the elimination portion of a round. A player is eliminated by a random selection performed in a pre-written manner, and conducted by the excluded player (i.e. the player who scored the most points). If there is a tie for the highest-scoring player, the tie is broken by a random choice, such as, but not limited to: coin tossing, or choosing numbers.
However, before the exclusion and elimination take place, the player who has scored the lowest amount of points is presented with "The Opportunity," a bribe to leave the game, with the knowledge that he/she has a chance of being eliminated. "The Opportunity" is an amount of money, offered by the host, to the player. If the player takes it, he/she is given the money and is instructed to leave. In such an instance, the exclusion/elimination portion of the round does not take place. If the player not does take "The Opportunity," the player receives an amount of points redeemable for the following round, and is considered for elimination. If a player is offered "The Opportunity" more than once, the amount of money decreases, but the amount of redeemable points increases.
