The mission of FrankfordStyle is to provide high quality instruction in the visual, performing and literary arts, murals and community beautification, and cultural animation to community residents of different, ethnic, racial, and class backgrounds.

FrankfordStyle reaches approximately 3,000 people a year. As the only source of arts and culture lessons in Frankford, FrankfordStyle is vital to the life of the community. Providing alternative activities for poor and moderate income children and teens is one of our goals, and several young people have decided to pursue careers in the arts based on their experiences at FrankfordStyle. Artists and families have moved to Frankford because they support FrankfordStyle's belief and practice that arts and culture are part of the fabric of community life. FrankfordStyle was cited as a model by the City of Philadelphia in 1988, and used as a model by SPIRAL Arts of Portland, Maine in 1992, and SOWEBO of southwest Baltimore in 1995.

FrankfordStyle's multi-disciplinary arts school runs year-round, offering three terms. Classes are offered in the following areas: ballet, modern dance, piano, guitar, teen drama, children's drama, mixed media, drawing, oil painting and music video. The school serves approximately 300 students annually who range in age from 5 to past 65 years old. Approximately 88 students each year require tuition aid. We are fortunate to have a very talented and committed faculty, including piano teacher Dr. Elena Ayzenberg, who has an international reputation and training; guitar teacher, Matt Richards, who appears on several recordings and is a well-known jazz musician; and teen drama instructor Karen Razler, who is a professional stage actress and theater educator.

Mural programs are run in collaboration with local schools, and are done in prominent outdoor public spaces in the community to promote positive imagery and beautification. FrankfordStyle runs an Artist-in-the Schools program that has placed established artists in local elementary and middle schools to work with students. Every year we stage a festival of arts and performances on the campus of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and throughout the year offer many musical and dramatic performances, as well as art exhibits.
