Walker and Team Smacker took the field for the third game of the day
after a slight debate between the AWBL Commissioner and one of Team
Smacker’s players. The game looked to be a blowout, but a late
rally by Team Walker was cut just short by Kyle Means. |
| Team
Walker got a run in the first inning after Joey Troupe’s triple
drove in Andy Snyder who singled earlier in the inning. With a one
run lead, Ryan Hetrick gave up an early inside the park homerun to
Kyle Means after Troupe dived and missed his shot into the trees
which tied the game. With the score tied at one, Troupe again drove
in Snyder, this time with a two run homerun. With a two-run lead,
Hetrick pitched a good bottom of the second. After giving up a
single to Marc Lantz, Hetrick retired the side. In the top of the
third, Team Walker was held hitless in two at-bats. |
| In
the top of the third Hetricks magic and profanity ran out. After
giving up a two-run homerun to David Huey after a Beveridge triple,
Lantz grounded out. But then five consecutive hits and five
consecutive runs spelled the end of Hetrick’s day at the mound.
Walker game in for his second pitching appearance of the day and
ended the bottom of the third.
|
| With
the score 8-3, Team Walker needed to get out the bats. Troupe led
off the top of the fourth with his second homerun of the day, but
the inning quickly ended with groundouts by Pritchard and Snyder.
Walker gave up solo shots to Huey and Means in the top of the fourth
which extended Team Smacker’s lead. Walker and Troupe each hit
solo homeruns in the top of the firth to cut into the deficit, but
once again the inning was cut short by a groundout by Walker and a
bad base-running error by Pritchard. |
| With
the score 9-3, Team Guidash tried to start a rally. Dustin Guidash
led off the inning with an inside the park homerun. Matt Dinger
singled after subbing in for A.J. Gillung and scored on a two run
homerun by Andy Divelbiss, his first of the season. Zimmerman ended
the inning with a groundout. |
| Team
Smacker continued to consistently extend the lead in the bottom of
the fifth by adding another run on a solo homerun by Marc Lantz.
Snyder hit a solo homerun in the top of the sixth but once again
that was the only run Team Walker could manage. Marc Lantz hit into
a double play after grounding out, and David Huey was thrown out on
his way to home by Joey Troupe from left-field. |
| With
their backs against the walls, Team Walker had to get four runs in
the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Joey
Troupe led off the inning with a homerun, h is fourth of the game.
Pritchard followed with a triple, and scored on a two-run homerun by
Andy Snyder. Walker followed with a groundout, and for the first
time in the game, Troupe was retired on a line shot off the house to
end the game. |
| Means
got his second win of the year on the mound and Hetrick picked up
his first loss in the first pitching performance of his career.
Hetrick was moved to the bullpen after the game and was declared the
clubs closer. |
