Team Smacker hands Team Guidash their first beat down of the day
Team Smacker 13
Team Guidash 4
 by Turd Ferguson
In the second game of the day, Team Smacker faced off against Team Guidash for the first time since Team Guidash eliminated Team Smacker in the 2002 playoffs via sweep. Adam Beveridge made his first appearance on the mound, facing off against Team Guidash ace Matt Dinger. The game started off as a pitcher’s duel, but before long was a blowout.
Dinger held Team Smacker scoreless in the top of the first allowing only a single to Kyle Means. Andy Snyder and David Zimmerman each flew out in a quick scoreless inning pitched by Beveridge. After allowing two singles to Lantz and Means, Dinger got out of the second inning without giving up a run. Beveridge allowed his first hit of the game, a single to A.J. Gillung, in the bottom of the second, but did not give up a run.
With the game scoreless, David Huey, in his first AWBL appearance of the year, led off the top of the third with a single. He would score on a two run homerun by Kyle Means. With a two run lead, Beveridge did not give up a hit or run in the bottom of the third. Dinger allowed one hit, a solo homerun by Adam Beveridge, in the top of the fourth, which extended Team Smacker’s lead to 3-0. Beveridge again kept Team Guidash hitless in the bottom of the fourth and maintained his shutout.
Team Smacker got out their bats and sent Dinger’s ERA through the roof in the top of the fifth. Marc Lantz led off with a double and scored on Kyle Mean’s second two run homerun of the day. After an Adam Beveridge groundout, Team Smacker got five consecutive hits including a single by David Huey, two run homerun by Marc Lantz, a single by Kyle Means, a two run homerun by Adam Beveridge, and Huey was left stranded after hitting a double.
With the score 9-3, Team Guidash tried to start a rally. Dustin Guidash led off the inning with an inside the park homerun. Matt Dinger singled after subbing in for A.J. Gillung and scored on a two run homerun by Andy Divelbiss, his first of the season. Zimmerman ended the inning with a groundout.
Team Guidash hoped to stay in the game but it was put out of reach in the top of the fourth. Adam Beveridge followed a Means single with a two-run homerun. After a Huey groundout, Lantz and Means hit back to back homeruns to extend the lead to ten runs. Down ten, Guidash scored on a Dinger groundout which cut the lead to nine. Both teams went scoreless in the seventh innings to give Team Smacker the victory.
Adam Beveridge pitched brilliantly in his first outing of the year. A slew or errors by Dustin Guidash helped put runners on the bases for Team Guidash. Andy Divelbiss was 1-5 in his first game of the year. David Huey, signed before the game, went 4-8 in his first game of the year. Todd Martino struckout in a single pinch-hit at-bat.
