| For
the second game of the day, Team Guidash, picked by many to finish
last in the league, faced off against Team Barilar, picked by many
to win the World Series. Team Barilar captain Kyle Barilar came into
this game injured and it was quite evident in this game as Team
Barilar fell down big early. They managed a comeback but fell two
runs short. |
| David Zimmerman and A.J. Gillung started off the season with a bang for Team Guidash as they both hit homeruns in the top of the first inning to give Team Guidash a quick three-run lead after the first half-inning. Team Barilar managed to cut into the lead with Kory Blose's two-run homerun in the bottom of the first but ended the first inning trailing a run. |

Team Guidash failed to score in the second inning and AWBL rookie Mike Pride drove in Kory Blose on a fielder's choice in the second bat of his career to tie the game at three. In the top of the fourth, A.J. Gillung lead off with a solo homerun, his second of the game to give Team Guidash the lead. Captain Guidash followed Gillung with a triple and scored on David Zimmerman's two-run homerun, his second of the game, to give Team Guidash the three run lead. Blose hit his second homerun of the game in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to two.
|
In the top of the fourth Zimmerman crushed his third homerun in four plate appearances to extend the lead to 7-4, and Team Guidash ace Matt Dinger held Team Barilar scoreless in the fourth. Team Guidash got out their bats again in the top of the fifth inning when Guidash and Zimmerman drove in Dinger and Gillung respectively with singles. Trailing by six runs, Travis Harp, who was signed by Team Barilar minutes before the game, hit his first homerun of the year followed by Mike Pride's first homerun of the year, while pinch-hitting for Barilar.
Harp held Team Guidash scoreless in the top of the sixth and Team Barilar continued to pick away at Team Guidash's lead in the bottom of the inning. Harp and Pride connected for back-to-back homeruns for the second consecutive inning to cut the score to 10-8.
In the top of the seventh Guidash drove in Dinger on a single to give Team Guidash an insurance run heading into the bottom of the seventh. Pride hit his third consecutive homerun to lead off the inning, but a Blose triple was followed by a flyout and groundout by Miloser and Harp to finish the game.
Matt Dinger pitched the complete game for the victory and Travis Harp earned the loss. 2002 Co-MVP Kyle Barilar was limited to only four at-bats, only reaching base once, due to an injury sustained in track.
