Sad update on RyanHi everyone on the DS/CHD boards. Just wanted to thank all of you from the "support team" for all the kind words. This morning came as a shock to everyone. Craig gave Ryan his 10am meds, and changed over the feeds as well. We were thinking about taking him home possibly next week sometime. We bundled Ryan up to go for a walk outside, took some pictures, and then went back inside. We were out about 1/2 hour only. Sometime between getting off the elevator and arriving in his room, which was maybe 1 minute, Ryan decided to go meet Jesus. The doctor was around, so we quickly called him in and he said he was gone. We've been talking with the staff today and came to the conclusion that Ryan was waiting for us to not be thinking about him passing. He got off all the machines, he made it out of hospital, he met Santa and got outside and made some memories. Mommy and Daddy were doing OK, so what a time to just "go to sleep". It was so quick, painless and perfect. The best way to go I'm sure. Craig held Ryan up to his shoulder as we went down the elevator to the van waiting outside, where we said "see ya", around 815pm. We had time to be with him today, for some family to come say their "see ya's" as well. It was a good day, if it could be. The staff here are wonderful, and have been very supportive and helpful. We packed up his room tonight, and are leaving Canuck Place in the morning. I'll try to post once in awhile, but I'll probably be taking a bit of a break for now. I'll read through the posts that I get in the digests. December 16, 2004 at 11:28 PM PSTHi everyone this is Ryan's daddy writing. I just wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart, for all the words of encouragement and special messages to Ryan specifically. Today was a beautiful day because Ryan went "home" I told Ryan that is was his job as God's newest angel to watch over mommy and daddy. I know that Ryan will fulfill this in more ways than one. Karen mentioned a few things that we did with Ryan. I had the opportunity to read his favorite books and had a wonderful sleep with Ryan on my chest. I held his little hand in mine and Ryan became as light as a feather, it hardly felt like I was holding him at all.Ryan has touched so many lives in such a short amount of time. It would be our great pleasure to share in the celebration of his life with you. Everyone is welcome to come to his memorial and Karen and I will greet each of you with open arms. December 16, 2004 at 04:41 PM PSTThanks everyone for your words. We've been able to make hand/foot molds of Ryan that turned out beautiful and we painted his hands/feet as well to get imprints. I made a "memorial picture" for the fireplace here where others that have passed on recently have theirs. We've met with the chaplain to start some of the arrangements. Here's info for Ryan's celebration of life: Date: Monday, December 20, 2004 Time: 1:30 pm Place: Northview Community Church 32040 Downes Rd (located between Gladwin and Clearbrook Rd) Abbotsford, BC Phone: (604) 853-2931 Directions: Clearbrook Rd Exit from Hwy 1, take north to Downes Rd, turn right other directions on website at www.northview.org If there are any other changes, we'll let you know. Thanks again, Karen December 16, 2004 at 11:57 AM PSTWe took Ryan out for a walk around the gardens of Canuck Place. We took a bunch of pictures and made some beautiful memories. These are the last moments with Ryan. He took his last breaths as we came off the elevator and went into his room, just before 1130 this morning. Ryan is dancing free with the angels in Heaven now. He has been healed completely. We are going to make some hand molds now and make some lasting reminders of our little monkey man. Please pray for us at this time. Thanks.December 16, 2004 at 09:35 AM PSTGood Morning everyone, Ryan had another good night. The plans for today are to take him outside for fresh air and a nice walk around the grounds at Canuck Place. Mommy and daddy are going to familiarize ourselves with Ryan's meds today and start to learn how to give em. Yesterday Ryan had an okay day, his lungs are still the issue right now. Continue to pray for healing in this area.Ryan is wearing his big boy clothes (onesies and cords) and looks very cute. It is so nice to see him in something other than his diaper or sleepers. Ryan is currently sleeping soundly in his bed we will make him mobile soon. With the additional sleep, Ryan will have the energy he needs to experiences all the wonderful things here at Canuck Place today. December 14, 2004 at 05:44 PM PST"Today was a rilly good day. i got to meet Santa Claws and get my piktur taken with him. He was a rilly nice Santa (my mommy thinks so anyways). Daddy asked him for a lurning toy for me for Christmas. He came to see all the kids here at Canuck Place and a photographer took lots of pikturs too. After that mommy and daddy and me (i was hanging out in the stroller) went to the Art room to make stuff for my room. i had 2 viziters in the morning and my unkle and auntie are coming soon to see me. Mommy and Daddy had a meeting with the "team" to talk about me and Canuck Place and what they do here. i got to go downstairs for supper again tonite. It was rilly good, but i don't get any of it (chicken and mashed potatos and corn). i think i miss sum of my nurses from the hospital, but i rilly lik it here at this place too. Mommy and Daddy think it's pritty cool too. If the wether gets nicer, i can even go outside for a walk with them. I'll talk to u more later, thanks. Lots of luv, Ryan"December 13, 2004 at 04:18 PM PSTHey ya'll, we arrived at Canuck Place shortly after 1 pm. Ryan was greeted by the nursing staff and shown to his room. The room faces the front on the road where there are beautiful houses and lush greenery. In fact, our room is directly above Ryan's. We have the one of four family suites and our view is very nice. Ryan has been sleeping since he arrived and looks extremely comfortable and at peace with his new surroundings. Ryan is monitored closely by staff but for symptoms only. They don't do the usual vital sign checks and O2 sats monitoring.Tonight Karen and I are going to take advantage of the craft room and make Christmas decorations for his room. We are going to make his room as festive as possible. We are also going to spend some time in the Snoezelen Room (extra sensory room with lights, music and bubbles.) Daddy would like to give Ryan a real bath. Well this home for now and we are soooooo happy to be here. Stay tuned for more updates in the days ahead. |
