History

On September 3, 2004, K9 Pascha was laid to rest due to a short but devastating battle with cancer. He was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was very serious about his work, yet very social in the right circumstances. We hope to have another K9 to fill his position soon, but none can ever fill his place in our hearts. Our sympathy goes to Ptlm. Robbins, Pascha's handler, who lost a brave protector and loyal, loving friend.

Ptlm Thomas Robbins and K9 Pascha Von Holzland are a new team as of 1999. They have earned police service dog status and are now in training for narcotics detection. Ptlm. Robbins is Pascha's third handler on the Department. Sgt. Farling first acquired Pascha, but gave him up for personal reasons. A new handler was selected but did not make the program. Finally, Pascha was assigned to Ptlm. Robbins.

K9 Pascha is the son of a very famous Schutzhund dog named Uras Von Haus Anja. Uras was raised/trained/handled by Master Trainer Pastucka from an 8-week old puppy, bred in Germany, and was chosen twice to represent the United SchH Club of America on the World Schutzhund 3 Championships team. In 1995, Uras was the top scoring dog in the stadium (obedience AND protection) at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Uras has produced many top competition dogs (one placed third in the World Championships in 1997) and excellent police service dogs. Presently, Uras has three sons working in police service in PA: Pascha, Nico Von Holzland (Susquehanna Twp), and Bauser (Williamsport PD). Master Trainer Pastucka also bred and raised Pascha.

K9 Pascha was purchased with generous contributions from local businesses and citizens. In their short time as a working team, Ptlm. Robbins and K9 Pascha have proven themselves a great asset to the Unit and the Department.

Ptlm. Robbins and K9 Pascha earned their "BH" title in August, 2000. This title is the abbreviation for the German word meaning "Companion Dog." Congratulations to this team on a job well done!

The Unit has assisted local, state, and federal agencies in the war on crime. Teams have assisted with incidents ranging from simply clearing unsecure homes and businesses for intruders to crowd control and officer protection at the Camp Hill Prison Riots in 1989. They have been credited with numerous arrests, evidence finds, and seizures of illegal drugs.
