RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING
May 12, 2012

 

The meeting was called to order by Tri-Chair, Chuck Miller at 10:03 AM.  There were 18 members in good standing in attendance.

After the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the minutes of the April 14, 2012 meeting were read.

 Motion made by Peggy K., seconded by Diane M., to accept the minutes as corrected as to the date of the May meeting and noted that in addition to the statement that Pat Mongalieri’s term  is ending and she is not eligible to run again, Rachele Harmuth’s term is also ending but she is eligible to run again as per Recreation’s By-laws.  Passed unanimously.

 

 

Treasurer’s Report:

  $15,709.13 in checking account; $251.29 in petty cash.

Old Business:

Kathy S. reports that the capacity of the Main Club House is 375 if it is set up for stadium seating.  Angelia is willing to do face painting for a charge of $50 to $100 for four hours.  The Office has heard from a number of property owners who are disappointed that WLE’s Fourth of July Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 30.  Discussion followed; it was noted that WLE’s Fourth of July Celebrations have always been held on the Saturday before July 4th.

Motion made by Peggy K. and seconded by Ruth S. that the date for the WLE 2012 Fourth of July Celebration remain as Saturday, June 30.  Passed unanimously.

Meet Your Neighbor- Saturday, May 26:  It will take place in the Rockledge Pool area.  Decision made that Recreation will provide hotdogs, soda, popcorn (Pat M.), and wine and cheese.  Arts and Crafts exhibit will be set up in the Adult Lodge. 

Motion made by Rachele H., seconded by Pat. N., that Recreation will fund face painting for two hours.  Passed unanimously.

Pat N. will coordinate the event.  Joe M. and Leslie D. will provide music.  Carol M. and the WLE, WLC, will perform Razzle Dazzle.

Name tags for property owners and the selling of 40th Anniversary tee shirts and 40th Anniversary DVDs was discussed and decided upon.

Family Bingo to take place in the MCH.

Father’s Day Picnic – Saturday, June 16 :  will take place in the Main Club House, 6:00pm.  Tickets on sale:  steak - $7.50, hamburger - $3.00  Cut off for ticket sales: Thursday, June 14.  Limit: 135

USO Show – Saturday, July 21 – Chaired by Anne Marie M.

Flea Market – Saturday, July 21 -  Chaired by Bree D.

Rachele H. suggested a boat building and racing contest during the summer at a date to be determined; Saturday, July 7th for boat building and Sunday, July 8th for boat racing was suggested.

 

Music in the Park (Rockledge Pool Area)  Events scheduled to date:

Saturday, July 28th – Pocono Mountain Music Makers

Saturday, August 11th – Take Three

Saturday, August 18th – Kevin’s Music

Recognition Dinner – Saturday, August 18 – will take place in the Main Club House.  Chaired by Vinnie S.

Summer Casino Trip to Bethlehem PA – Terry C. is working out the details.

Mud Obstacle Course for Children-  Rachele H. is working out the details.

Summer Family Bingo -  Pat M. will decide whether or not she will chair this event for 2012.

New Business:

Joe M. reports that Zumba and Walking with Leslie Classes will resume as per schedules that have been posted throughout WLE.  Classes are free.

Scott T. has offered to set up a track for remote car racing – is being investigated.

 

New Year’s Eve Adult Party – The Lights have been contracted for the music. Chuck M. will chair.

Adult Halloween Party – Pat M. will chair.

Tri-Chair, Chuck M. sent letter to the WLE BOD in response to comments made in the minutes of a BOD meeting regarding the fact that the Recreation Committee should be aware of the cost of WLE’s full time employees when certain community events are planned.  Vinnie S. and Chuck M. met with WLE, BOD, President, Jerry Beskovoyne to discuss the letter. It was determined that there was no offense intended.

Fourth of July Celebration- Saturday, June 30 -  Vinnie S. and Pat N. will co-chair the event.  Discussion followed as to the need for volunteers, in particular to take over some of the responsibilities that have fallen upon Vinnie S.

An article about the WLE Recreation Committee will be placed in the next issue of the WLE community bulletin.

Motion made by Peggy K., seconded by Diane M., at 11:40am to adjourn the meeting.  Passed unanimously.

The next meeting of the Recreation Committee is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2012, 10:30am in the Adult Lodge (Note: the change of usual date and time)
