The Shore

As I opened my eyes I was confronted by the sea, both mighty and graceful in its walk.

It greeted me with crashing waves adorned with white sea foam and sang me a song of deep sea mysteries and ships that sailed the waters uncharted.

The winds rushed by, pushed by an unseen force from the land of spices and forests unknown.

The sweet exotic smell washed away by years of loneliness undaunted.

As I breathed in the sweet sea air, it settled in my lungs.

I could taste the bitter salt on my tongue, tickling my taste buds.

I could hear the lonely cries of the gulls flying in circles above the waters, searching for a calm that would never come, cursing a storm that would never cease.

One solitary beam reached towards the horizon from a lighthouse perched on a cliff.

It searches for life but when it is found it is fleeting.

It moves on with the tides, becoming a memory long since past.

A myriad of shells litters the beach, each one a little different, each one with a story to tell if one would open their heart to listen.

I could feel the grains of sand beneath my toes, soft and delicate to the touch, each one older than the next.

I was surrounded by a moonless night with nothing to guide my way but the distant giggling of the stars.
