MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Montour High School Library Media Program is to provide a disciplined environment in which all individuals in the district are empowered to become lifelong learners and effective users of information, ideas, and technology. Our purpose is to provide a wide variety of materials and resources necessary to accomplish the goals and outcomes of the school system. This mission statement further acknowledges the uniqueness of each student by working with students and staff, striving to provide materials to support the curriculum, and encouraging the independent study and personal reading of students. Students will be provided appropriate library media skills to assure proper usage of the library for the purpose of searching for information, continuing education, and for personal preference. In addition to print media, students will gain important training and experience by utilizing the latest technology. Students will develop proficiency of using the library facilities here at Montour through a variety of library experiences provided by the library and educational staff. This also will develop lifelong skills that may be used in higher education, vocational occupations, and personal endeavors.

POLICY

If anyone would like to view the Media Center Policies, you may stop at the High School Media Center by setting up an appointment with the Media Center Director.

If any user name and passwords are needed for any link on the links page, please stop at the Media Center at the High School.

The philosophy of the Montour High School Media Center is “a learning laboratory where the use of resources…, print and non-print,…” is purposeful, planned, and directly related and interrelated to a viable teaching and learning program “to widen, deepen, intensify and individualize the educational experience.” (Ruth Davies. The Library: a Force for Educational Excellence. Bowker, 1969, p. 19.)

The library is an integral part of the school curriculum, complementing and supplementing the curriculum while also serving to meet the needs of the individual faculty member, student, or other potential user of the library. Broadening the learning experienced and knowledge of students, the library provides material for the students’ intellectual development as well as recreational needs. Serving as a source of information and guidance in obtaining information, the library will develop and guide student interest and profitable use of leisure time.
