We are the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians.

From our Handbook:

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) is a Catholic and Fraternal organization formed 1894 in Omaha, Nebraska, as the "Daughters of Erin".  In 1906 at the National Convention in Saratoga Springs, New York, the Ladies received permission to function as a separate organization "Ladies Auxiliary to the Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAAOH).  Anna Malia Ruddy of Pennsylvania was the first president.  At the 1984 National Convention in Albany, New York, the meaning and the word "Auxiliary" was deleted.  In 1985 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the National Joint Interim Board Meeting, the name was officially changed to "Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians" (LAOH).

The primary purpose of the organization was to protect and assist young immigrant Irish girls coming to the United States.

The organization pledges to work in harmony with the laws and doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church and to foster loyalty to our country and community, to aid and advance the endeavors of the Irish people, and to foster and perpetuate Irish history and Irish culture.

Our motto is FRIENDSHIP, UNITY AND CHRISTIAN CHARITY

Our Patron is St. Brigid
