Here are some pictures of Brisbane, so you can get a view for what I see every day!
This is a view of the Central Business District (CBD) of Brisbane from the Southbank beach area. I marked out my apartment building.
The next picture is a wide-angle of the west curve of the river around the CBD. The green in the front are the mangroves that line the river in many places. This was taken from the Goodwill Bridge Walkway that connects the Botanical Gardens with Southbank.
These next pictures are both from Kangaroo Point, a cliff area across the river from the Botanical Gardens. The cliffs are pretty cool because the city has set up an area for local rock climbers. Don't let the picture fool you; these cliffs are pretty high!
Anyway, this one is the west curve of the river again, but you can see the Goodwill Bridge where I stood for the previous picture. You can also just see one of the blue CityCat ferries coming under the walkway. I occasionally take the ferries to class or hockey practice.
This one is the east curve of the river around the CBD.
A closer shot shows the Riverside area, where a lot of people keep their private boats. In and among the buildings in this area of town is a huge number of resturants and clubs. It's sort of a yuppie area, but they have a really great oyster bar. The bridge in the background is the Story Bridge and it gets all lit-up at night; it's really pretty.
These next pictures were taken from Mt. Coot-tha overlooking the city and suburbs. This panoramic wide angle shot shows the city and suburbs and this one is a zoom of the University of Queensland.
Finally, we have a zoom of the Central Business District.
This is a picture of my incredibly small, but quite homey studio apartment. If I lean out my big window and look left, I see the city rooftops and if I look right, I see the Botanical Gardens and the suburb of West End across the river.
This is my little kitchenette. It's now stuffed full of what I consider kitchen essentials, so it's not this empty anymore.
Here's a picture of me at my desk.
I've since put up some photos and other random stuff on the walls - this is my desk now!
This is a shot of the Southbank Energex Arches, which run the whole length of the Southbank parklands.
Here are two pictures of the Brisbane Botanical Gardens, which are a block from my room. The first is the trees and some type of iris and the second is the summer flowerbeds, which have since been replaced.
Just outside the city is another botanical garden, at Mt. Coot-tha.
I can't seem to stay away from flower photography since my class at Dickinson, so I took two pictures of some water lilies: a single lily and two together. I rather liked the way these turned out - kind of surreal.
Here is a yellow flower that looks alright, and a red flower that I really liked. The light and shadow in this picture is quite good.
These pictures are the product of a facination I had with the lizards at the Mt. Coot-tha Gardens.
This is a large lizard that was sunning himself on a rock. He was close to four feet long!
There is a bird in this picture, so you can imagine the size of this guy.
Later, he strutted his stuff for me.
Check out the spines on this one!
This guy's got tail length!
He looked at me and then posed quite proudly.
Can you tell I liked these guys?
