McKenna is my 5 year old German Shepard/Golden Retriever/Demon mix. Oh okay, she's not really a demon...most of the time. We adopted her from the Women's Humane Society in 1997. We brought her home after my sweet Maggie passed away. You can read more about her adoption on Maggie's Page.
McKenna was terribly abused by her previous owners. You see, they found her at 5 weeks of age. They took her home and abused her for a few months. They beat her, starved her, screamed at her constantly and terrorized her. She is lucky that she got out alive. She was incredibly shy when we first met her. She was afraid of hands and loud voices. During her first few weeks with us, she would hide her food in fear that we would steal it. She would "bury" her treats behind the curtain and under furniture. It took time before she realized that we weren't going to steal her food and toys. It also took time for her to trust our hands. She now knows that we would never ever beat her or even lightly slap her. She has come a long way during these three years. She is still shy and easily frightened, but we understand that it'll take more time to heal her.

More about McKenna
McKenna loves to swim. My fiancé and I take her with us when we hike. We always let her swim in a creek. I take her to Maggie's spot so she can swim around. She loves to bite the water and chase rocks that my fiancé skips on the creek surface. She also chases rocks that aren't moving. She's very smart.
She snores louder than my dad. Not only does she snore, but she drools and sleeps with her tongue hanging out. Quite the lady.
She thinks she is a lapdog. I can see a little 8 pound poodle as a lap dog, but an 82 pound ball of fur? It's a bad habit but I let her do it. She loves to snuggle and feel secure.
She's also a hero. Recently, she donated 750 mls of blood to a very sick dog. She is not fond of visiting the hospital and she doesn't appreciate being poked with needles. However, she sensed she was there that night to help another dog. She didn't put up a fight and she quietly laid on the table while she donated blood. She's a very brave girl.
McKenna is a sweet little ball of fur. She has added so much joy and love to our lives. She may snore too loud and burp to much, but she has found a nice spot in our hearts.
