"Let It Be" sounds like what it is...The Beatles swan song. There aren't alot of overdubs and some of the session conversation was taped. They wrote and recorded this album before "Abbey Road" when they weren't getting along with each other too well. "Abbey Road" is a much happier album, although it was released before "Let It Be". As for "Let It Be" itself some of the songs are really good and others are really bad. The album begins with "Two Of Us" which is a nice song of Paul's about his friendship with John. It's ironic that he wrote this becasue he and John weren't getting along at the time. "Dig A Pony" is weird. The music is good though. "Across The Universe" is a classic. The lyrics are excellent and the music is really good. John's vocals on this song are wonderful and the little kids singing the chorus is a nice touch. Great song. "I Me Mine" isn't very good. "Dig It" is pretty good. "Let It Be" is another classic. Paul's vocals are excellent. The music is great. The lyrics are a bit sad but somewhat comforting in a way. Wonderful song. "Maggie Mae" is pretty weak.
"I've Got A Feeling" is one of my favorites on the album. The guitar riff is classic and the lyrics are good. The way John and Paul's vocals get blended together at the end is really clever. "One After 909" is okay. It's not that I don't like the song I just don't like this version, it's too slow. Listen to the 1963 version on "Anthology 1" it's speeded up and alot better. "The Long And Winding Road" is one of my favorites. Truely among Paul's best work. His singing is wonderful and the music is great. It's a little sappier than "Let It Be" but that's Phil Spector's fault, not Paul's. "For You Blue" is decent. The bottle-neck guitar playing is cool. "Get Back" is a pretty cool song. The vocals are good, the guitar riff is cool and Billy Preston's piano playing is impresive and really adds a nice touch to the song. Overall "Let It Be" is a pretty cool album. It's not their best but it's pretty good.
