"Beatles For Sale" is a pretty good album in general. "A Hard Day's Night" had exausted most of the original songs they had written at that time, plus John and Paul were writing songs for other artists to record. So they set to work putting together an album of some of they're favorite cover songs and a few new Lennon-McCartney originals. Like "The White Album", "Beatles For Sale" contains some of the best and worst songs that the Beatles recorded. "No Reply" is one of the better songs on the album. The melody is good and John's vocals fit it perfectly. "I'm A Loser" is a good song but it's kinda depressing. "Baby's In Black" isn't very good. "Rock And Roll Music" is one of the stronger effors on the album. It has a good sound. "I'll Follow The Sun" is a nice song by Paul with a good melody. "Mr. Moonlight" is a terrible song, probably the worst that they ever recorded. It sounds like something outa the 1930s, the instrumentation is bad and the vocals are awful. "Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey!" is okay. Paul's vocals are good but other than that it's nothing special. "Eight Day's A Week" is the best song on "Beatles For Sale", the fade-in into is classic, the lyrics are good and the tune is catchy and upbeat. "Words Of Love" is okay but overall pretty weak. "Honey Don't" is good with a good vocal performance by Ringo. "Every Little Thing" is a nice song by Paul, it's not a standout though. "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party" is a great song and is one of my favorites on the album, definetly a standout. "What Your Doing" is a good song by Paul that proves that a good rhythm can make or break a song. "Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby" is a cool song. It ends the album well. In overall view, the album takes a step above a "Hard Day's Night", but also plants them in sort of a creative rut, that only the brilliant works of their next album "Help!" could bring them out of.
