About a year after Resident Evil’s release, CAPCOM USA released a director’s cut version of
the survival horror hit. Besides giving late Playstation purchasers and converts of Resident Evil
2 a chance to pick up the title, CAPCOM planned to retool the game with the complete Japanese
intro. And other cinemas that were censored in the original U.S. version due to violence.
However, an unfortunate mis-communication between CAPCOM USA and CAPCOM Japan
regarding copyright information led to the replacement of the Japanese cinemas with the same
cinemas from the original Resident Evil. Most intended alterations, however, did make it
through.
Resident Evil: Director’s Cut does feature an Arrange mode, however, and a beginner’s mode
which is less difficult in addition to the original Resident Evil game. The new arrange mode
features tougher enemies, changes in item and enemy placement, new camera angles, and
finally, new character costumes to add an extra element of freshness.
The following screenshots depict some of the new camera angels and costumes to be seen in the game.
