Myrtle Sophia Peterson Jackson Carter was the mother of Vera E. Jackson Burrell, (deceased) Doris E. Jackson Torrence, (deceased) Lawrence Carter, (deceased) Joseph Carter, (deceased) Charles Carter, (deceased) Clarence Carter, (deceased) Geraldine M. Carter Whiteside, (deceased) Myrtle L. Carter Basham, (deceased) Marjorie L. Carter Basham, (deceased) Jean E. Carter Ferguson / Martin, (deceased) Josephine Carter, (deceased) Shirley Ann Carter Huntley (deceased) and Ruth A. Carter Ellebie / Pulliam only surviving child. Myrtle was born on December 18, 1892 to Jefferson Peterson and Jennie Brown in Olean, New York. Myrtle was raised by a George Ross and his wife in Olean, New York. Myrtle married Chrispus Attucks Jackson on June 10, 1909 in Olean, NY. To that marriage three children were born. Vera, Doris and Lawrence. The family moved to Franklin, PA some time around 1914. She then married Joseph M. Carter on December 15, 1917 in Franklin, PA. Myrtle had three children at that time and Joseph brought three sons to the marriage. So they started out with a total of 6 children. In this marriage 7 daughters were born. Geraldine, Myrtle, Marjorie, Jean, Ruth, Josephine and Shirley. Her second husband Joseph died on May 29, 1936 and is buried in Franklin, PA. She lived in Franklin, until her death on February 7, 1944 at the age of 51. She was preceded in death by both parents, her second husband Joseph M. Carter and a daughter Josephine Carter. Ruth is the only surviving member of the orignal Jackson Carter Family.
