Tresses review of Bret's band in concert at The Viper Room on October 20th, 2000
The Bret Domrose Band - Friday, October 20th, 2000

The venue was comfortably full but no so packed that you couldn't move. I have to say the music they played at The Viper Room that evening between bands was great too. Much better than the stuff they played at The House Of Blues between bands last time I was there. At HOB it was like you prayed that the bands would come out so you didn't have to listen to the music they were playing between bands, but The Viper Room had a great sound. Even the security guard was groovin to the tunes, catching eyes with the guests and enjoying themselves.

As I bought myself an orange juice, I had an oppurtunity to say hello to Bret and Mike. Bret was very kindhearted to people as he spoke with them. Mike asked me later to extend his apology to everyone here on the board for not posting anymore. Although he assured me he is feeling much better since back surgery he will not be posting as regularly as he used to do.

The first group was Grasshopper. I moved toward the front to listen as they came on stage. They had a very unique sound with interesting transitions. They warmed us up as an audience and got us moving. The singer from Grasshopper said they were "Foreplay" for Bret's solo band!

Then Bret Domrose and his band took stage. Bret was wearing Black jeans, Black boots, and a black button down shirt that was silky to the touch.
Mike was wearing black jeans, black button down shirt with blue and silver embroidery on the front, also of a silky texture. Mike and Aaron were wearing sunglasses and Bret said something about the resembelance to The Blues Brothers. The audience agreed with approval.

Bret was warm with the audience and added a little banter throughout the performance. He thanked friends and everyone for coming to hear them. Bret said he knew we had a choice of groups to listen to and thanked us for coming to hear them perform.

They had a great stage presence and attitude. Very fun and energized! I could not keep myself from dancing. Mike was twirling his drumsticks between beats, he definitely ROCKS! Later in the set Bret was kidding around with balloon toys that someone was making. Bret picked up one of the balloons that made its way to the stage ( this balloon was a very long apparatus with a circle on top ) and he asked what it was supposed to be ( Tee-hee ). Aaron put it on his head. He was very animated.

Later during a more passionate number, someone in the audience lit a lighter and began waving it in the air. People were embracing this song and you could tell they were visibly moved. There was alot of variety to the songs. At times Bret sang like an angel and at other times like a lion. He can get down! Plus, at times Sam and Mike harmonized, not covering Bret's beautiful voice but adding a creative depth to the sound and emotion of the songs. It was an awesome show! Special lighting effects were displayed during some of the songs enhancing the stimulating excitement of the music. People were very notably moving, grooving, rocking and thoroughly loving them!

From Rough Around The Edges the following songs were played: Fall, Eve, Melt and Volcano. I believe he sang Second Chance as well. Bret played alot of great new songs that I had never heard! He told me that he has recorded these as well!

It was a wonderful night celebrating and showcasing Bret's talent and music!
