A Polar Bear Invasion

On a very cold and dreary Sunday the tenth of December, amid damp breezes and occasional snow flurries, a herd of over five hundred Polar Bears invaded the Poconos. The Polar Bears converged on Schoch's H-D in Snydersville where they warmed themselves up and feasted on home-made split-pea soup and Granny Rosie's non-explosive chili. (For those of you from Palm Beach County, the "Polar Bears" are members of Polar Bear motorcycle clubs.)

The Polar Bears' claim to fame is their periodic scheduled rides throughout the winter. Some Polar Bears arrived from distances of over 300 miles away; no mean feat on a day when snow and freezing rain was in the forecast. Granny Rosie Schoch can always be counted on to put out a good hot, hearty meal for these chilled riders, and they were not disappointed. Rosie's secret Pennsylvania Dutch ingredients make most of her dishes zehr gute.

After a day of camaraderie, some shopping, some cold-weather gear show and tell, and lots of fressing (that's Pa. Dutch for snacking), the Polar Bears mounted up and headed out into the cold gloom on their various ways home, until their next gathering.
