The Dybuk of Evil

The Dybuk of Evil is a game mechanism that was put in place to allow small ships to damage large ships that they otherwise would never meet up with or even have a chance of harming by conventional weaponry.

When not active, Dybuk is chained in a little box in the midst of popcorn. He will offer any ship in the system the chance to release him in exchange for a specified amount of popcorn.

What Dybuk will do after he is released is as follows:

Dybuk will possess the ship Weasel 127 and go on a spree of destruction across the galaxy. He will automatically meet with the most powerful ship in the system (hence the weapon against big ships). If that ship cannot cast the appropriate spells to protect himself, that ship will be decimated. Dybuk has an Evil Zapper which does the following:

Bio Bomb: Annihilates Crew health on opposing ship by reducing it 20%. The Medical officer has a spell to prevent this. Also increases plauge at homeworlds.

Logic Bomb: Equivalent to the purge terminal spell if there is a terminal in that system. Also makes you lose all your starnet accesses.

Bangy Bomb: Possibly used to destroy colonies and locations in systems where no ship meets up with Dybuk, also reduces mod reliability by 20%.

Oh, yea, you can't fight Dybuk either, as his Evil Tech prevents battles.

Evil Rings

Evil rings are quite possibly the only blatantly broken mechanism in TBG. The original intent of Evil Ring use was to allow a player to "win" TBG by gaining all of the skill levels in an incredibly short period of time. However, I have yet to meet a captain that would want to come, conquer, and then leave; the game is simply to addicting. Only a short-term player would ever consider using the rings, as the social implications of their use for a long term player is horrendous. However, there are two circumstances I could think of where the rings could be used:

  • A newbie could be turned into a "smart bomb," and, with exquisite coordination never before seen in TBG, could meet with a dreadnaught and steal all his skills as an act of war.
  • A newbie could organize a posse of about 10 other ships (so they can all jump to the same system in order to control the ring-bearer's movement) and aquire all 4 evil rings becoming the ultimate terror in the galaxy.

Both of the above scenarios would require alliance-like resources and cooperation and organization never seen before in TBG. Unless you know of 10 like-minded individuals, don't bother picking one up.

If there are some uses for these things that I haven't thought of, please let me know. If an enterprising captain wants to try one of the above scenarios (particularly the second), please let me know, as I have some information that you would require to start.
