Officer Actions

Q: Can I interrogate that same criminal more than once? If I "can," will it actually give me a different result?

Doug

You can interrogate more than once. It is not known if you can further "persuade" the criminal to divulge his secrets.

Adrian Cooper

Q: What are the ranks of the criminals in order?

Spelljammer

A: Heavy ($100)
Assassin ($400)
Courier ($900)
Gangster ($1600)
Boss ($2500)
Mastermind ($3600)
Godparent ($4900)

Pequod

Q: Can I find all criminals via searching?

A: There are seven levels of criminals, of which only heavies are visible through a direct search. Interrogation and release for information are the only means of acquiring knowledge of higher level criminals.

Chris

Q: Does releasing for a bribe pay the same as turning him into a prison?

Doug

A: Releasing a prisoner for a bribe pays the same as turning them in to a prison, but makes the alien's races an enemy while not requiring a special trip to a prison.

Q: If I interrogate a prisoner and he reveals the location of another criminal, and then I release him for a bribe, does he warn the other criminal?

A: No, they only move when they're captured: they don't actively evade once you're after them.

Jeremy

Q: If I get an Assasin, but I don't have the skill to get the next one up will the assassin tell me about the next guy up or not?

Ace

A: I think the answer is yes - assuming you are either interrogating or releasing for information.

Pequod

Q: Will a Godparent tell me about a Heavy or nothing at all?

Ace

A: If you release a Godparent for info, you go straight back to the bottom of the crime chain of another race.

Q: Are criminals automatically turned in when you reach a system with a Prison or does it require an action? If the latter, is it a captain's action or the weaponry officer's?

Harry Leshko of the Spelljammer

A: Handing them over to prison is a "minor action" - under the scrap menu.

Chris

Q: "Medicine can be collected from oceans, with a chance of success equal to the player's sickbay percentage..." it goes on to say that you can make up to $1000. Say that you have 100% Sickbay, do you get one that's worth $1000?

Ace of Texas

A: No. However, your percentage influences the maximum bonus you can get.

Robert

Q: Do you have to have at least one science/medical skill point to access terminals/cure plagues?

--Bill

A: You will need at least skill one level to begin receiving any science or engineering favor, but you do not need any skills to access a terminal or to cure a plague.

Chris

Q: What determines how much I can maintain a mod?

Ace of Texas

A: The % amount that a module goes up when maintained depends on the skill of your officer, and the tech level of the mod. The amount you can maintain is the square of the tech level subtracted from your total skill in that area.

Q: Does anyone have any idea how much energy is accrued at a homeworld for purposes of intimidation?

Doug

A: Factors influencing intimidation amounts are plague level, the tech level of the race intimidated and the length of time since the last intimidation. The biggest I've seen has been just over $4000 at a relatively mediocre homeworld. Elves and Pixies may kick out more (if left alone long enough), but nobody is likely to know how much. There is no telling if plague affects turnly accrual or if it only factors in on the turn the intimidation occurs.

Chris

Q: Can anyone cure a plague, even if the person above them in the power rating does it?

Adrian

A) Yes. Anybody can cure, even 23 ships in 1 turn.

Robert

Q: Does anyone know the formula for percentage chance of gaining a torpedo per crew member?

Steve

A: It's equal to the danger percentage of the minefield for each Weaponry crew to get one torpedo.

Harry Leshko of the Spelljammer

Q. Can more than one ship campaign at a location in any one turn?

Adrian Cooper

A: A colony/homeworld can only be influenced once per round. If a ship higher in the power sorting influences, no other ships below him can influence that colony that turn.

Doug

Q: Is there any kind of trick to recruiting rogues? I had 7 (Science) crew slots available, and had 14% odd life support when trying to recruit at Ophiuchi (0% badlands). (I failed to recruit.)

John of the Nevermind

A: The rules state that :"Rogue recruitment produces a random number of randomly skilled crew, both number and skill limited to a maximum of the officer's skill" So, it could be that you were exceptionally unlucky, and the random number generator produced a zero in your case.
