Summer 2002

CIA Class Project

The CIA class will be sponsoring a food booth this year at Mountain Craft Days, September 6,7, and 8.  Operation hours for Mountain  Days is 10 am to 5 pm.  The booth will sell two kinds of soup, corn chowder and ham and bean, along with beverages and corn bread.  They will need volunteers to man the soup booth for the following shifts:  8-11, 11-12, 2-5 and then cleanup; for a total of 6 persons per shift.

Volunteers will also be needed to clean and prepare the booth, donations, making the soup and tearing down at the finish of Mountain Craft Days.  Volunteers that man the booth will need to dress appropriately in long skirts, blouses and aprons for the ladies and blue jeans or coveralls, cotton shirts and suspenders for the men.

Contact Vickie Watkins or Amy Beeghly if you are interested in helping.

Event Coordinator Position Established

At the last Board meeting, the position of Event Coordinator was established.  John Watkins has graciously volunteered for this position.  John will be responsible for logging in all events to be held either at the church building or the new church property.  The event sheet that was passed by the Board at a previous meeting will still be used.  It is very important that the event sheet be filled out and turned in to John or the church office to be given to John.  All events must be scheduled through John and all persons or groups must fill out the event sheets.  It doesn't matter if this is a church member or a non-church member; church function or non-church function.

We are trying to make sure the church is available for events and that those responsible for opening, closing, necessities for weddings/funerals and cleanup are informed as to who, what, when, and where.

Please try and help by doing your part by scheduling your event through John.  John will handle the church's calendar and also let the appropriate persons know about the activities.  John can be reached via e-mail at jwatkins@shol.com .

Monies For Bunnies - Children's Project

The children's 2002 Lenten Project has come to an end by the time you read this.  They started the Lenten season by collecting funds for their "Monies for Bunnies" project.  With the funds raised they will be purchasing bunnies to be sent to Ghana, West Africa.  Fifty dollars purchases 2 rabbits and a cage.  They were able to collect over $500, enough to provide ten families with rabbits.  The children were very excited about their project and were rewarded on Easter Sunday when a few live rabbits visited their Sunday School class.

Our Nursery is in need of some new furniture.  We need to replace some items.  Listed below are some of the needs.  If you would like to donate monetarily to any of these items, please mark your envelopes "Nursery Furniture" or with the particular item you wish to donate towards.  Some  of the items needed include cribs, a changing table, a toy chest, a rocking chair, crib sheets, a rocking horse, and toys.  Many Thanks - Christian Education Department
