The Missing Half

By Sponge

I'm alone in the dark,
And the whole world is silent;
Between two deadly foes,
The long night is my friend.

Two cruel enemies-
Today and tomorrow...
Only long, empty hours
That I spend in sorrow.

With every passing day,
With each passing hour,
The pain inside grows stronger
With a terrible, aching power.

Awareness hurts deeply.
I can't escape the feeling.
But at night I can retreat
Into blessed, peaceful sleeping.

In my dreams, I can live
Again in yesterday...
I walk with you by my side
And all the pain slips away.

I see your golden smile,
I'm bathing in your light;
The world makes sense once again
I feel my life turns right.

I relive all we had,
The joy, the love we shared,
The time when things still mattered;
The time when I still cared.

I hear your gentle voice
As you teased, as you laughed
At those times when I was down,
Your words were my comfort... and my strengh.

My eyes are still closed,
I don't want to come back;
But with the rising sun,
The wretched memories attack...

You're dying in my arms;
Your eyes are wide open,
Your soul is still alive...
But my soul is broken.

How could you do that?
You simply left me here.
Did you think your last smile
Would make this all easier?

It didn't. Nothing can.
I would scream, I would rage,
If only I knew it'd help me
To escape from this cage.

It's steel bars are made of
The days' harsh reality.
Now only my dreams
Keep me hanging onto sanity.

I know one day we'll meet.
And I'll be whole again.
But until then, for me,
Only the solace of dreams will remain.

Good night now, sweet darkness.
I warmly welcome you,
'Cause with you, I know well,
My hero comes back, too.
