To all PCMEA Members:
Welcome Back to School! All of us on the PCMEA Executive Board hope that you had a wonderful, exciting summer, and that you are ready to embark on another fun-filled semester of studying and practicing. Ok, so you might regret spending all that time partying once you get into the practice room...
Nevertheless, PCMEA has been working hard this summer to prepare for the year ahead. First of all, by reaching this website, you should have realized that we are now on the web. (If you haven't, may God help you in the next semester - you're going to need it!). We are also working on developing a list-serve to reach advisors, PCMEA members, and all others interested in receiving information about PCMEA.
Also, all of the region coordinators have been working diligently to prepare workshops in your area this fall, as well as the statewide workshop this spring. For those of you who have been to a workshop before, you know that not only do you get to attend seminars on subjects you don't get to in class, you also get to meet members from other colleges (perhaps maybe even the guy/girl of your dreams - just remember that PCMEA is NOT a matchmaking service!)
For those of you still wondering what you are going to do outside of class, especially FRESHMEN (!!!), PCMEA offers many activities and ways to get involved. In addition, no other organization offers more ways for you to get prepared for the classroom. Here are some of the ways you can be active this semester:
* Check out the new PA standards. The state legislature will be voting on them soon, and they will affect how you teach in the future
* Go to a workshop. There will be plenty of workshops around the state, and they will be advertised on Region websites, this site, and PMEA. We try to keep costs down so that everyone can afford to attend.
* Get active in your chapter. Every chapter needs active participants to help run the organization; without people working on the chapter level, there would be no PCMEA.
* Look for ways to help in your surrounding school districts. Everyone at the PMEA Leadership Conference this past July was commenting on how they would love for PCMEA members to get more involved in their school districts.
* Keep checking this website, and the website for your region. We will continue to have job listings, events, articles, and more.
No matter what you do, though, we hope you all have an enjoyable school year. And, of course, you can always contact us for anything - information, questions, money (ok, almost anything).
