MATT KORONA'S MOCK DRAFT PAGE
2001 NFL DRAFT APRIL 21-22......... 4/14/01.... WITH DRAFT DAY EXACTLY ONE WEEK AWAY THIS
WILL BE MY NEXT TO FINAL MOCK. THE FINAL MOCK WILL BE ON 4/20/01. GOODLUCK TO
ALL THE TEAMS WITH THEIR DRAFT. MAY IT BRING YOU TALENT AND MANY WINS IN
THE FUTURE OF YOUR ORGANIZATION.
Picks 1-15
- 1. Chargers - QB, Michael Vick (Virginia Tech) It's almost certain that Vick will go first whether San Deigo keeps the pick or trades it. I look for them to keep it. Vick will learn from watching vetern QB Doug Flutie under center this year
- 2. Cardinals - DT, Gerald Warren (Flordia) Cardinals have alot of holes to fill on their roster. The biggest need is either offensive line or defensive line. I think they'll take Warren but Lenard Davis is also a possibility
- 3. Browns - WR, David Terrell (Michigan) Going into the draft the plan is simple for the Browns, upgrade the skill positions around Tim Couch. With Terrell and Kevin Johnson at the wide reciever position the future is looking up
- 4. Bengals - OT, Lenard Davis (Texas) Bengals haven't had much luck with their past drafts. It seems as though they like to gamble and they lose every time. Maybe this time they'll make a good investment in this offensive tackle
- 5. Falcons - DE, Justin Smith (Missouri) A fast game breaking reciever would be great but they might pass on Korean Robinson due to the question marks surrounding him. They upgrade their defensive line
- 6. Patriots - DT, Richard Seymour (Georgia) At first when I looked at this team all I could think was
- 7. Seahawks - WR, Korean Robinson (NC State) There are alot of question marks surrounding Robinson due to a bum hamstring. Holmgren will look past the bad workouts into the talent Robinson possesses
- 8. Bears - RB, LaDainian Tomlinson (TCU) I'm not really sure what's up with the James Allen situation. Curtis Enis is now in Cleveland. They need a feature back. If Cade McNown ever becomes a big time nfl quarterback he'll need a running game. They had their mistakes with Enis and Rashaan Salam. They'll hope this one isn't a bust
- 9. 49ers - DE, Andre Carter (California) 49ers are still looking to upgrade their defense. John Engelberger looks like he has a good future at defensive end. For him to be at best he'll need a good end opposite him
- 10. Packers - WR, Rod Gardner (Clemson) The two biggest needs for Green Bay is defensive line and wide reciever. With Warren, Smith, and Carter already off the board they could get a better quality wide reciever. Jamal Reynolds may be a reach at this point. Gardner may be hard to pass up
- 11. Panthers - OT, Kenyatta Walker (Flordia) It's hard to tell where Carolina will go with this pick. If still on the board Deuce McAllister is a possibility. With Steve Burline being cut Drew Brees could go here but that's only an outside chance. Can't have enough linemen
- 12. Chiefs - RB, Deuce McAllister (Mississippi) Ever since Marcus Allen retired Kansas City have been looking for that special running back. This pick could also very well belong to the Rams if Kansas City and St Louis work out a trade for Trent Green. If Rams pick here I look for them to take Jamal Reynolds
- 13. Jaguars - DE, Jamal Reynolds (Flordia State) Jaguars need help at alot of positions. The biggest needs are offensive line, defensive line, linebacker, and secondary. Dan Morgan is also a possibility here. They could use an end opposite Tony Brackens
- 14. Bills - OG, Steve Hutchinson (Michigan) Doug Flutie is no longer a Bill. Meaning they now need an offensive line to protect Rob Johnson. Flutie didn't need an offensive line because of his mobility. Johnson isn't all that mobile
- 15. Redskins - MLB, Dan Morgan (Miami FL) Redskins would love to have a big play wide reciever. Last year they had trouble getting into the end zone especially in the passing game. However, with the loss of Derek Smith middle linebacker is a concern. With Morgan still on the board it would be impossible for them to pass on him
